CreeksBend Golf Course

By R.J. Smiley

CreeksBend Golf Course, with a 1940’s barn converted into a wonderfully functional clubhouse, is located just 20 minutes South of the Minnesota River and three miles North of New Prague. The smile grows across your face as you drive into the parking lot and ponder which way to go or where to park and will remain there until your final putt. Joel Goldstrand did a superb job of routing a golf course that will keep you smiling… and scratching your head on a piece of land that could have produced a very vanilla golf course.

There is not a signature hole at Creeksbend but a handful of holes that will remain in your mind’s eye for years to come. The Par 4, first and second holes could be on any golf course. “The creek,” where the course gets its name, runs along the left side of the fairway then must be crossed as it guards the long narrow greens on the right side. Many a round has started with a disaster on this beautiful opening hole. The second hole will intimidate golfers with its uphill, sloping left fairway and the over a hill blind second shot to a demanding green. The twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth holes are among the most interesting you will ever play. Then finally an over the marsh, over the hill, to an elevated green, Par 4, will keep that smile on your face if you can only manage a two-putt on this severe green surrounded by mature pine trees. Smile, you had a great time!
