Cragun’s Legacy Indoor Golf
By Eric Peterson
Cragun’s Legacy Clubhouse is open for special events and weddings during the offseason and now is also available daily for indoor golf and complete game improvement instruction with PGA Master Professional Chris Foley.
Located in the Golf Shop of the clubhouse, the simulator is the widescreen model of the PGA Tour Simulator by aboutGolf (as seen on the Golf Channel). According to PGA Director of Golf, Chuck Klecatsky, “The aboutGolf simulator was so well received last winter that we have taken it to the next level this season. We have turned our golf shop into a bar like atmosphere offering pizza, snacks and drinks. We also added a teaching hitting bay utilizing the latest video and ball tracking technology where Chris Foley will be offering instruction throughout the winter.”
aboutGolf uses 3Trak technology, which begins gathering club data as the club approaches the ball, and continues gathering ball data at the moment of impact. This creates the most realistic ball flight experience offered in simulators. “For anyone who has played on a simulator in the past there are always questions of how realistic is it and do you really have to putt? What we have found with this simulator the ball flight is almost perfect and putting is also quite realistic,” commented Eric Peterson PGA General Manager at Cragun’s.
The Legacy golf simulator offers 40 different golf courses from around the world to play as well a driving range for practice. It takes approximately 2.5 hours for 2 players to golf 18 holes on the simulator. “Our guests have said the time saved in not looking for their golf ball greatly reduces the time to finish 18 holes,” said golf professional, Chris Foley. “Swinging the golf club during the winter also helps you score better in the Spring when the courses open up again. A lot of my students are shooting great scores right away in the Spring – there is no rust from a prolonged winter layoff,” adds Foley.
The simulator also offers 3 different miniature golf courses to play, so the winter fun is for all ages and all ability levels. A new feature for 2013/2014 is the “Skills Challenge” where golfers compete in closest to the pin events from a variety of places on the golf course. The accuracy of the simulator makes the shaping of shots possible and the contests provide a different way to compete against your friends.
Cragun’s Legacy Indoor Golf offers hourly simulator rental, a weekly 2 player league starting December 1st, and also a unique idea of an evening golf social hosted by Chris Foley. The evening social offers small groups of 4-10 people an opportunity to play closest to pin, longest drive, and other fun games along with professional instruction. Winter golf is a great activity for locals and resort guests looking for a few hours of entertainment, as well as golfers looking to improve their game when you cannot golf outside.
