Majestic Oaks Golf Club – Golf Is Just The Beginning
By Steve Manthis
With three different courses that provide about 75,000 rounds of golf each year, most golfers have either heard about Majestic Oaks or made their way to Ham Lake at least once. While Majestic Oaks, located just west of Highway 65 on Bunker Lake Boulevard, is well known in the community for its golf courses, there is more to the place than just 45 golf holes.
Of the 45 holes, the original 18-hole course is called “The Signature,” and the other 18-hole course, which opened in 1991, is called “The Crossroads.” Of the two, The Signature is longer (up to 7,300 yards), more open and more straightforward. Even though there isn’t much water on the course, it’s a challenging layout with several dogleg holes that puts a premium on hitting shots in the right location. The back nine features more straight holes than the front but is equally testing of one’s abilities. The par five 16th hole has a slight turn to the left and an elevated green, and the 17th hole, a mid-length par four, gets its difficulty from a severely sloped putting surface. Personally, I love the finishing hole; it’s a long par four with an expansive fairway. It’s a solid end to the golf course. The Crossroads is shorter (about 6,400 yards) and has a few tricky holes, like the double dogleg par five 12th. Since it’s quite a bit shorter, there is a premium on keeping your ball in play off the tee; driver isn’t always your best option. In addition to these courses, they also have the 9-hole, par 29 executive course.
When I talked with head golf professional Adam Erickson recently, he spoke of some improvements to the property. First off, they’ve done a lot of tree removal, mostly due to diseases like Oak Wilt or invasive species like the Emerald Ash Borer. Because of this ongoing work, Erickson says they have noticed better grass in several locations. In addition, Erickson credits third year superintendent A.J. Lewis with improved fairways, “He instituted a new program for the fairways, which has improved them significantly, especially the low areas.” The greens at Majestic Oaks have always been good, so combining them with good fairways makes for a playable golf course.
While Majestic Oaks is host to many tournaments and corporate outings, Erickson stressed that there is still room for you to play. “Even with those events,” Erickson said, “We always have one of our courses available to play.” During the weekdays, Majestic Oaks offers an 8:00 shotgun; that way the course can be available for the many corporate events held there. The cost for these weekday shotguns is a mere $50 ($43 for seniors) which includes a cart and a burger basket at The Oaks Grill after the round. Be sure to check with the golf shop for specific dates and information. Besides the weekday shotguns, Majestic Oaks offers twilight rates starting at 3:00, easily enough time to get in 18 holes.
A great option is The Players’ Card for Majestic Oaks patrons. For $99 a year, an individual can enjoy member rates on all the courses, a 10% discount in the pro shop and an additional day (8 days as opposed to 7 for the public) to book tee times.

They turn the cart barn into a rink and drop the pucks on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Besides boot hockey, they also run Cornhole/bean bag toss leagues on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These leagues are held inside, so don’t worry about being cold during play. Be sure to give them a call to see when these leagues will begin play.
