Things To Do At The 3M Open
By Jim McNaney
From July 19th through July 25th, the traveling circus that is the PGA TOUR will take over the TPC Twin Cities in Blaine.
Unlike 2020, fans are once again allowed on property.
After having only a handful of volunteers last year, the team will need to be much bigger to make sure everyone has a safe and fun time.
If you have never been to a PGA TOUR tournament, it is far more than just standing around watching the best players in the world remind us just how good they really are and how hard the game really is for the rest of us.
The 3M Open offers five different types of experiences for spectators. Golf Fanatics, Foodies, Socialites, Families and Science lovers are provided with a wide range of choices.
Golf Fanatics
Golf purists will have the chance to enjoy a cocktail at the Gray Duck Deck located at the 13th hole or, if seltzer is more your style, the Michelob ULTRA Organic Seltzer Landing is waiting for you at the 18th.
If you want to work on your own game, stop by the Titleist Demo Center and GOLFTEC Swing Analysis presented by Charles Schwab.
Fans can stop by the experience and receive a complimentary GOLFTEC WebLesson from a Certified GOLFTEC Professional. The GOLFTEC team will have you hit a couple of shots and then capture your golf swing for an online lesson they will send to you later. This WebLesson will include a swing comparison to PGA TOUR Players while GOLFTEC Coaches offer advice on how you can improve your swing. The analysis includes video drills that are prescribed for you to practice and improve any faults. You can also demo the latest Titleist Drivers and utilize their Foresight launch monitors to learn more about your launch data. All participants receive Titleist Pro-V1 golf balls for participating.
Foodies
If gastronomic delights are more your style, the 3M Open offers a wide range of options.
The 18th hole concessions, located just off the main entrance, provides all the fan favorites. While there, grab a YETI Signature Rambler at the main entrance concession stand and re-fill throughout the day with your favorite beverage.
There are also concessions in the Fan Village. If you are a true #foodie, you’ll appreciate how organizers like to keep it classy in the Fan Village. Head up the hill to taste a variety of flavors: Parlour’s burger, Revival’s comfort food, or a Cub Grill featured foodie item!
If pizza is more your taste, run over to The Northwoods area for a slice of Red’s Savoy. The popular local pizzeria is serving up their award-winning Sota-style pizzas for all Minnesota foodies to experience.
Also, in The Northwoods area just off the 18th fairway, enjoy some Minnesota favorites such as a Chicken Wild Rice Meat Pie made in Lake Elmo or Tater Tot Hot Dish Tacos. Don’t forget to cool off and hydrate with water, but allow some space to enjoy an adult beverage or two from local breweries.
Hole 7 offers the unusual combination of beer and donuts. Sample craft beers from Goose Island and snack on warm donuts from Hopper’s Donuts truck.
Socialites
The 3M Open provides opportunities to keep your timeline full. #GolfThatMatters in the Fans Village offers the chance to snap a life-size photo and show the world what a great time you are having. Don’t forget to use #GolfThatMatters for a chance to be featured on signage throughout the course.
If you are worried your phone will die, the T-Mobile booth is available to keep all your electronics fully charged so you don’t miss a thing.
Families
Looking for the perfect family experience, the 3M Open has you covered. Starting at the main entrance, snap a family photo with Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. While there, make sure to stock up on all your 3M Open essentials in the 3M Welcome Hub.
Located in the Fan Village is the Family Care Center. Families in need of private feeding or changing areas can find what they need at the M Health Fairview Family Care Center. Stop in for self-care, while the rest of the family enjoys watching a 16-foot mural be painted in real time.
Located in The Northwoods, the TimberTech Backyard offers a chance to take a break from watching #GolfThatMatters. While there, play some backyard games and learn about their sustainable products.
Probably the best thing for families is that children under 15 are still free admission.
Science
What would a tournament with 3M as the title sponsor be if science was not all around? Calling it 7,468 yards of science, this year’s 3M Open offers an enhanced fan experience that is designed to show how 3M Science is helping us all safely return to events, work, and our communities.
Nature, floating chairs, science as art, hearing protection are all presented for fans to interact with. You can even watch a robot create a one-of-a-kind golf tool for you to use during your next round at the 3M Science Dome.
So, whatever you are looking for, you will find it at the 2021 3M Open. With all that is available to see and do, don’t forget to actually watch some golf!
