Meet The Players Of The Inaugural 3M Open
The inaugural 3M Open takes place the first week of July at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, MN and will be the 37th of 43 events on the regular FedExCup season. There was a PGA TOUR event in the St. Paul-Minneapolis area from 1930-1969. The list of winners included Raymond Floyd, Ken Venturi, Mike Souchak, Horton Smith and Harry Cooper.
This 72 holes stroke play tournament will be played by 156 competitors at 7,441 yards to a par of 71. The purse for this new PGA TOUR event sits at $6.4 million with the winner taking home a check for $1,152,000 and 500 FedExCup points.
FIELD NOTES
- Four members of the victorious 2016 U.S. Ryder Cup team played at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, MN—Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Jimmy Walker, Brooks Koepka.
- Eight of the top-30 players in the world are currently in the field, including two of the top ten—No.1 Brooks Koepka and No.8 Bryson DeChambeau.
- Eight major championship winners with a total of 15 major championship victories. Phil Mickelson has the most with five followed by Brooks Koepka with four.
- Ten winners on this season’s PGA TOUR schedule. Brooks Koepka is a two-time winner this season.
- Currently ten of the top 30 on this year’s FedExCup Points standings, including No.2 Brooks Koepka.
Abraham Ancer: won 2018 Australian Open, highest ranked Mexican player in the world (64) and first Mexican player to crack the top 100 in the world.
Keegan Bradley: four-time winner on the PGA TOUR, including 2011 PGA Championship. Currently ranked 29th in the world.
Corey Conners: won the 2019 Valero Texas Open for his first career title.
K.J. Choi: eight career victories, including THE PLAYERS Championship in 2011.
Jason Day: winner of 12 PGA TOUR titles, including the 2015 PGA Championship. Currently ranked 18th in the world.
Bryson DeChambeau: five-time winner on the PGA TOUR, including this year’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Currently ranked 8th in the world.
Jason Dufner: has five career victories, including the 2013 PGA Championship.
Tony Finau: earned first TOUR victory at the 2016 Puerto Rico Open at Coco Beach. Currently ranked 14th in the world.
Lucas Glover: three career wins that includes the 2009 U.S. Open. Four top-ten finishes this year and is 76th in the world.
Max Homa: earned first TOUR victory at the Wells Fargo Championship in May.
Sung Kang: earned first TOUR victory at the AT&T Byron Nelson in May.
Si Woo Kim: a two-time winner on the PGA TOUR that includes winning THE PLAYERS Championship in 2017. Currently ranked 55th in the world.
Brooks Koepka: winner of six career titles, four of which are major championship victories. Won back-to-back U.S. Opens in 2017 and 2018 and PGA Championships in 2018 and 2019. Currently ranked No.1 in the world.
Adam Long: earned first career victory at this year’s Desert Classic, sinking 13-foot birdie on the final hole to beat Phil Mickelson and Adam Hadwin by one.
Hideki Matsuyama: highest ranked Japanese player in the world at No.31. Five career wins that includes three wins in 2017—two of which were World Golf Championships.
Phil Mickelson: five-time major championship winner with 45 career PGA TOUR victories. Won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am earlier this year. Currently ranked 28th in the world.
C.T. Pan: winner of this year’s RBC Heritage for his first career victory.
Patrick Reed: six career wins includes the 2018 Masters Tournament. Ranked 25th in the world.
Martin Trainer: winner of this year’s Puerto Rico Open for his first career victory.
Jimmy Walker: six-time winner on the PGA TOUR that includes the 2016 PGA Championship.
Two highly decorated amateur players and teammates at Oklahoma State, Viktor Hovland and Matthew Wolff, will be offered sponsor exemptions by the tournament. Both are expected to turn pro following this week’s U.S. Open. Hovland was low amateur at this year’s Masters Tournament and Wolff was the NCAA individual champion this year.
The question now will be who will take home the beautiful new Waterford crystal trophy and what will the final scores look like on this newly remodeled TPC Twin Cities. The guaranteed winner will be the fans to watch all the action from this PGA TOUR competitors.
