50th Annual Tapemark Minnesota PGA Pro-Am
By Tone Pulido
The Minnesota PGA is grateful to be returning to Southview Country Club on June 11-13, 2021 for the 50th annual Tapemark Minnesota PGA Pro-Am. Founded in 1972 by Bob Klas Sr. and Pat Cody Sr., the Tapemark Minnesota PGA Pro-Am has donated $7.9 million in critical funds for non-profit agencies serving Minnesota children and adults living with developmental disabilities and their families. The event has been hosted at Southview Country Club since the event’s inception and is currently operated in partnership with the Minnesota PGA.
Historically, the men’s tournament was hosted between Friday to Sunday in June, while the women’s event was a one-round event on Sunday. Starting in 2020 however, the event was made all-inclusive – meaning, men’s, women’s and mixed teams were eligible to compete in the three-day championship. Professional players are paired with three amateur partners at the start of the event and only 40-percent of the teams make the cut to play on Sunday. The low professional, amateur and team are crowned champions and the low woman and senior professional are recognized.
While 2020 made hosting events more challenging, the Minnesota PGA was thankful for the opportunity to host the Tapemark Minnesota PGA Pro-Am at Southview Country Club on September 18-20. Originally scheduled in June of 2020, the event was delayed until the fall to ensure the safety of all those involved during the pandemic. Even with the difficulties the 2020 season brought, the event was a huge success with 45 teams participating and raising $80,000 for its benefiting charities: The Arc Minnesota, Living Well, ProAct and PGA REACH Minnesota.
Heading into this milestone year, the Minnesota PGA is extremely appreciative of the continued support by the membership and management of Southview Country Club, the event’s partners and players. The Minnesota PGA is also excited to continue the success from last season to make 2021 even more memorable, while also paving the path forward for the next 50 years!
