Minnesota National Golf Course – The Proof Is In The Play
By James Carlson
Minnesota National Golf Course in McGregor has become one of Minnesota’s “Must Play” top courses. We all know Minnesota golfers talk and the incredible buzz, fantastic word of mouth and overwhelmingly positive online reviews of Minnesota National say it all.
The proof is in the play. The golf economy the past few years has not exactly been booming, however under new ownership, Minnesota National Golf Course has seen rounds increase nearly 100% in six years, with annual growth averaging 15%.
What many golfers who have played Minnesota National for the first time, or many times agree on is that the ownership and staff are very committed to constant improvement, making this great golf course even better year after year. The improvements on the course, in the golf shop, in the clubhouse, and staff training insure that every golf outing, conference or wedding is a great experience.
A good example of Minnesota National’s constant improvement was to take hole 16 from being “by the lake” to being “on the lake,” you will know what I mean when you play it, amazing! Minnesota National has long been recognized for the quality of the greens. Be prepared to be impressed again, as new advanced equipment will aid them in providing even better consistency, speed and the trueness of the greens throughout the entire golf course.
In addition to growth in rounds, Minnesota National’s stay and play business has grown as well. They have a continued commitment to expand and improve their housing to meet the increased demand, including a new expansive RV park and housing project.
Convenient to get to, Minnesota National is located on Highway 210 between Brainerd and Duluth, just north of McGregor, Minnesota. Being in the middle of the state makes it an easy day trip or stay and play destination from anywhere in the region. Being centrally located makes Minnesota National a great location for golf trips, corporate golf outings, meetings, special events and weddings.
Another new addition this year is “Swing King,” giving golfers an opportunity to win $10,000 to $20,000 dollars for a Hole-in-One on one of the impressive par 3 holes on the back nine. How fun is that!
Looking for a challenge? Minnesota National Golf Course, from the tips, is rated the second most challenging golf course in the state, second only to the pro tees at Hazeltine National Golf Club. Not a scratch golfer? They have continued to improve the playability of the course with larger bail-out areas, lots of tree removal and improved fairway conditions to allow players of all skill levels to appreciate and enjoy the best of what Minnesota National has to offer.
With 5 sets of tees on every hole, Minnesota National encourages players to customize their round to increase the enjoyment of their outing. Many golf courses locate their tees in front of each other. Many of Minnesota National’s tees are located in as many as three different locations on a single hole, allowing you to play a different tee each day and experience an entirely different look.
Looking for beauty? Minnesota National was built on a pristine piece of Northern Minnesota virgin wilderness. Spread out over 600 acres. Featuring towering hardwoods, rolling terrain and wonderful marshes and manicured ponds that bring water into play on 15 of the 18 holes on the course. Each hole is set up in a way that will make you feel as if you are out on the course all by yourself.
