Minnesota PGA Junior Golf ‘Sota Series

By Maggie Sutton

The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf ‘Sota Series is the top junior golf program in Minnesota and one of the top junior programs in the Midwest. The ‘Sota Series is comprised of four unique tours, based on age and skill level, with the ability to be a training ground for playing more competitive golf or pursuing golf beyond high school.

Minnesota PGA Junior Golf has a strong history of grooming players. It has been the junior training program for current PGA Tour Players Tom Hoge and Troy Merritt, LPGA Tour Player Amy (Olson) Anderson, Sarah Burnham and 2003 U.S. Women’s Open Champion and former LPGA Tour Player Hilary Lunke. The ‘Sota Series is ready to take it to the next level and provide your child with the best resources to grow his or her game for this summer and beyond.

Each tour has flexible scheduling that allows kids to play plenty of golf with minimal disruption to your family’s jam-packed summer routine. You can choose as many events as you’d like your child to play in from our over 180 events, and at a location that’s convenient for you. Whether it’s near home or the cabin, you can choose a location that works for you.

The four tours are broken up as follows:

The Minny Tour is designed for 7-12 year-olds who have little or no experience in competitive golf. These events are held on all Par-3 courses. Age divisions of 7-9 & 10-12. Caddies are allowed for Minny Tour events.

The Prep Tour is designed for 7-12 year-olds who have more experience in competitive golf. These juniors will have a chance to play on 9-hole executive and regulation courses and 18-hole executive courses. Age divisions of 7-9 & 10-12. We do allow caddies for Prep Tour events.

The Junior Tour is designed for 13-19 year-olds and all events are 18-hole stroke play competitions. This is for players who are looking to play competitive golf in a recreational environment—similar to other club-level sports. It is also a great option for those looking to play competitively in high school or may already be on a high school team. The Junior Tour is the primary per-requisite to earn status on the Players Tour. Juniors who have reached their 19th birthday prior to September 1, 2019 are eligible only if they have immediately finished their senior year of high school.

The Players Tour is an invitational program in which the Minnesota PGA Junior Golf Committee determines eligibility requirements. This is open to boys and girls ages 13–19. Juniors who have reached their 19th birthday prior to September 1, 2019 are eligible only if they have immediately finished their senior year of high school. Invites are sent out to Junior’s based on their average score to par using their top three scores in our program from 2018.
