With our COVID enhanced sense of enjoying the great outdoors, more and more golfers are making the drive to Timber Creek Golf Course in Watertown, MN. Just 20 minutes west of Minnetonka, Timber Creek is an 18-hole haven for golfers looking to get away from it all on just a quarter tank of gas.

Timber Creek is the paradise-found of owner Brooks Ellingson. Over his 30-year tenure as a Superintendent, Ellingson kept his eye out for an 18-hole layout that checked all the boxes when it came to convenience, conditions, and upside.

When Ellingson discovered Timber Creek’s 140 acres, he felt the course was a prime public option among its posh private neighbors like Windsong and Burl Oaks. Adhering to the real estate mantra of location, location, location, Ellingson believed that Timber Creek was just what the golfing public needed when it comes to a country escape that a stone’s throw from the big city.

As our 2020 golf campaign ticks down, checkout this season of reasons to play Timber Creek.

The Vibe

Pull into the ranch-style entrance at Timber Creek and you’re suddenly in the company of golfers who smile and wave like long lost friends. You’ll find your better self is awakened in these kind and gentle surroundings. If Mr. Rogers were a golfer, he would have been a founding member at Timber Creek.

The Amenities

Timber Creek offers a picturesque driving range and immaculate practice green. The clubhouse also offers an outdoor patio to decompress before or after your round.

The Conditions

Ellingson may be the owner, but deep in his soul he’s still a superintendent. Hearing that the pace and condition of his putting greens are a thing of beauty is the equivalent of Ellingson dying and going to heaven. When asked what’s the most satisfying part of being a course owner in 2020, Ellingson replied, “When a customer shares that our conditions this year are the best ever.

The Newbies And The Comebacks

One of the COVID-19 silver linings is that a significant portion of the 2020 golf audience is made up of new golfers or former players who’ve renewed their love for the game. Growing the game is an important element in the Timber Creek big picture.

The Nature

There is a definite serenity to playing in the country. The quiet soothes and calms. The only break in the silence is the occasional sound of bird life or one the cows that inhabit two of the neighboring farms. Listen for an “In the Moooood” soundtrack.

The Ladies, The Gentlemen, And The Kids

Junior golf has always been a key cog in the Timber Creek game plan. Ellingson believes if kids enjoy coming to Timber Creek, their parents will add the course to their lifestyle itinerary. At 6,600-yards, Timber Creek has also become a favorite of the ladies.

The Great Rates

Weekday rates start at $28 walking and $40 riding. Weekend rates are $39 walking and $49 riding. There are also discounts for nine holes, for seniors, and for juniors throughout the week.

The Excitement And Elevations

Like your favorite movie, the excitement builds the deeper you play into your Timber Creek round. The 3100-yard front nine is presented on the plateau to the left of the clubhouse. This parkland-style layout features mature trees, a meandering creek, and the course’s number one handicap on the Par 5, 455-yard first hole.

The back nine gets vertical starting on the elevated Par 4, 355-yard, 11th hole, and it continues with lofty views all the way through the Par 4, 385-yard 17th hole tee box. The 17th features the course’s signature creek running horizontally in front of the green. A course management strategy is vital on the back nine.

The Cooperation

Like everyone else in the golf industry, Timber Creek has adapted to COVID protocols. When asked what he’s grateful for during this most hectic of golf seasons, Ellingson offered a heartfelt reply. “Our golfers have been so good about adhering to the COVID guidelines. I’m thankful for how our customers have made the most out of this new situation.”
