The Minnesota PGA Junior Golf ‘Sota Series is proud to recognize its Players Tour Players of the Year Shelby Busker of Detroit Lakes and Carter Doose of St. Peter.

Shelby Busker, 17, ended the season with 780 points, having played in six events, a full 90 points ahead of the runner-up.

“It feels good to like play pretty consistent all summer and do pretty well at each of the tournaments,” said Busker, reflecting on her season.

At the Players Tour Tournament of Champions, she finished in fourth place. She figured if she played okay that she’d be in contention for Player of the Year.

Busker had three first place finishes this season, at Alexandria Golf Club, GreyStone Golf Club, and Izatys Resort.

Carter Doose, 18, finished the Tour with 1027.5 points this year, and hoped to win Player of the Year.

“It was one of my few goals I had set for the summer,” said Doose. “It’s nice to be rewarded, because you know, if you’re in first, you play consistently well and play at the top most of the time… So, it’s nice to finish it off like this.”

He played in eight events this year and was 240.83 points ahead of the runner-up. Doose had two first place finishes at Mankato Golf Club and at Legacy Golf Club/Faribault Golf & Country Club. He also finished top 10 in seven of the eight events.

Doose will play golf at Division II St. Cloud State in the Fall. While he didn’t win the Player’s Tour Tournament of Champions, he was happy to play at St. Cloud Country Club.

“It’s also my home course, so it’s kind of nice to get a couple rounds in before school starts,” said Doose.

“I liked playing up at the Match Play,” he said, referencing his favorite event of the summer. “I didn’t make it very far, but I think that was probably one of my favorite courses. Long days, but that’s golf.”

Busker and Doose have both played in Junior Golf events since 2010.
