The Tavern At Wild Marsh Golf Club – Dining Room With A View

By E. Nolan

You don’t have to tell a Twin Cities fisherman about Buffalo Lake. They know about it. They know how good the bass, perch and walleye fishing is across its 1,550 acres. A similar case can be made for the exceptional find at Wild Marsh Golf Club, on the shores of Buffalo Lake (and Mink Lake). It’s no secret. Golfers know about it. They know how scenic the dramatic roller coaster is… how very good and diverse the golfing experience is there.

What may be less of a known commodity to the broader Twin Cities is that you can tastefully put the two valuable commodities together (fish and golf) at The Tavern Restaurant AT Wild Marsh Golf Club overlooking Buffalo AND Mink Lakes. Fact of the matter is…there are a plethora of “hardly kept secrets” here, and the dining view and incredible, high-quality food selection merely lead that expansive pack of perks. The (fresh) walleye platter and sandwiches here… mmm, mmm, mmm. The incredibly huge and tasty burgers, hand-cut and seasoned fries (sweet potato option too), the assortment of sandwiches and specials (Prime Rib on Saturday)… the list goes on.

The owners of The Tavern, Jason and Sherry Tollette, brought the award-winning Executive Chef, Kevin Aho, out to Buffalo to deliver their “Scratch Menu” – everything made daily from fresh ingredients. Pretty hard to beat trained-chef daily-prepared homemade meals… right?

So they’ve got great food, that’s what you’re saying? If that were only it, you could find that a number of places across the Twin Cities. The Tavern is so much more. The many guests who frequent The Tavern from nearby suburbs (like Plymouth, Rogers and Maple Grove) advocate for The Tavern at Wild Marsh for the ambiance, the views, the personal service and… did I mention the views? (Of course. Everyone does.)

Pick a table along the wall of windows, or out on the patio (weather permitting) and look out over the gorgeous Par 5, 7th hole at Wild Marsh, the fairway wraparound porch that duplicates as the Mink Lake shoreline. Right now the fall colors reflecting off the water, shimmering in the sun, make for quite a dining view. Mink Lake isn’t exactly the Pacific Ocean, but if you’ve ever eaten at Pebble Beach (yes, the famous one in California), taking in the golf and water view from their own coastal porch… you can see the similarities.

Wild Marsh Golf Club provides you with another month or so of golf this year (hopefully) to take advantage of the great play and eat combination, but The Tavern stays open after the course closes, and serves an abundance of guests throughout golf’s off-season. The views… they change, but don’t go away. The incredible food, service, vistas and vibe… it’s all here every day. Where’s here? I mentioned the most proximate suburbs (Plymouth, Rogers and Maple Grove), but people who love the lake drives around Wayzata and Minnetonka come up Highways 12 and 25 to Buffalo (especially to take in the beautiful colors of fall). Buffalo is an easy shot down from Big Lake and Monticello. The overarching theme is not how close or far Wild Marsh Golf Club and The Tavern are from your house… it’s the incredible value and experience you find when you get here.

Of course, the best golf course restaurants know how to deliver beyond the dining room, and The Tavern masterfully accomplishes that with their full-service off-site catering and bar services. Delivering to small businesses and for corporate/golf events, The Tavern staff takes the best of everything and brings it to your party, outing, celebration and/or office meeting in style. Whatever your event, contact Jason and Sherry via phone: 763-682-4476 ext. 4, email: Tavern@WildMarsh.com or by text: 612-369-5529 or through their Facebook Page. They make themselves available to you every way they can, an opportunity you should certainly take advantage of. Their mobile service is a special touch, a great complement to their many on-site specials.

The Bar is open every day through the end of the golf season, but The Tavern’s restaurant hours (currently) are Wednesday through Sunday, 11AM to 8, 9 or 10. (See www.wildmarsh.com/tavern-restaurant/ exact hours.) Their current slate of Dinner Specials are: Pastas on Thursday, Alaskan Snow Crab on Friday night and Saturday is all about the Prime Rib Feast.

If you love food, like most do, it shouldn’t be hard to get you to try someplace as great as this once. The greater challenge you’ll find is that (like the many raving reviewers on Yelp and Trip Advisor) once you come out here, it’s hard not to keep coming back – a phenomenal credit to Jason and Sherry, and their incredible Tavern Restaurant at Wild Marsh Golf Club.
