Wild Marsh Golf Club - Buffalo Wild Swings
Graham Marsh left his mark in Buffalo, Minnesota, just as he did in Agar, South Dakota and in fifty other cities, in sixteen countries, around the world.
Soaring With The White Eagle
There is a game changer on the eastern horizon. The infamous St. Croix Crossing Project is finally coming to fruition and will open speedy access to the area just east of the St. Croix River, which thankfully includes the White Eagle Golf Club.
The Wilds Golf Club - Minnesota's Crown Jewel For Tournament Golf
Pick a day in the spring, summer, or fall, and it's 50-50 there's a tournament going on at The Wilds Golf Club in Prior Lake, MN.
Southern Hills Golf Course - A Statement In Super
There are courses you love that you could play every day. Southern Hills is that kind of course for many metro golfers (north, south, east and west).
ROYAL GOLF CLUB MAKES THE CORRECT DECISION
The 18 hole Championship Golf Course at the Royal Golf Club will not be open until the spring of 2018.
Ramsey County Golf - Diversity Of Greatness
Ramsey County, with just over half a MILLION residents, is the second most populated county in Minnesota. We're going to assume that most of those people feel lucky to live there (the Twin Cities IS one of America's most desirable metros).
Riverwood National - Who New?
What is the newest golf course in the Twin Cities metro? (Not including renovations.) Any clue? I didn't know.
Purple Hawk Country Club - North Soar
I've never seen a purple hawk I didn't like. It's an odd thing to think, and an odd thing to say, but when I first heard of Purple Hawk Country Club I had so many questions.
Pebble Creek Golf Club - Something For Everyone
We've all got our wish lists when it comes to courses we'd like to play. I've been lucky enough to play some great courses, but there are many others where I haven't had the chance to tee it up yet.
Fox Hollow - Plenty To Crow About
I was on the bus with a complete stranger (about thirty of them in fact) heading to the Warriors/Wolves NBA game, when the guy nodded at me and asked. "You ever played Fox Hollow up here?"
Elk River Golf Club - Top Of The World
Have you ever been to the top of the world? And no, I don't mean the Arctic. I mean Elk River, Minnesota.
Chomonix Golf Course - Better Than Ever
About six weeks ago I hit one of those milestone birthdays. All birthdays that end with a "0" are major markers in a person's life, but this one, the big 5-0, hit me pretty hard.
Cedar Creek - "Up A Creek"
"Up a creek" usually means trouble. Look up this Creek though (Cedar Creek) and you'll find a whole lot of good things. (Okay...and maybe a little trouble.)
Play At Majestic Oaks Golf Club Year-Round
It's easy to get drawn into the allure of Majestic Oaks Golf Club. Maybe it's how each employee greets you and asks how you can be helped.
A Wee Bit Of Scotland At The Links At NorthFork
This golf course is the rare combination of a quality-minded set of course conditions with an attitude that is more akin to casual play. Think about it.
Having It Both Ways At Territory Golf Club
Somewhere between the rolling berm meadows of an Irish countryside and the deep northern woods of upstate New York lies the Territory Golf Club. You will know the exact moment when the switch gets thrown between the two.
A Players Course - StoneRidge Golf Club
There are those rounds we play where it feels like your sitting down to a blah, franchise type meal at a mall near you. I won't name names.
Mississippi Dunes Golf Links - Redemption
The question in Minnesota golf throughout last summer was, "What in the heck is going on at Mississippi Dunes?" A gallery of avid golfers moaned in that, "Doc has a bulldozer and end loader out there and has no idea what he's even doing."
Heritage Links Golf Club Turns 20
Wow! We've had a great stretch of weather recently. While some may wish to spend this time of year seeking out the water, I find myself doing the opposite.
Willingers Golf Club - Modern Nature
I consider Willingers the course "Closest to the City That Feels Furthest From the City" and/or the "Most Northern Feeling Golf Course in Southern Minnesota."
Timber Creek Golf Course - Fall In Love This Summer
If you haven't been to Timber Creek in the past three years, you've been missing out on a LOT of NEW. If you've never been there, let me tell you why NOW is the time to go check out one of the better values in the west metro.
The Oak Marsh Mojo
As you walk into the Pro Shop at Oak Marsh you are likely to be greeted by name. You'll want to double check your wallet for your membership card, but alas, there are no members here.
Legends Club - Fully Loaded
What are your three favorite courses in the Twin Cities? Top five? As a national golf writer (and course rater) I'm regularly asked to list the 3 or 5 best courses in our biggest metro, so I figured you might as well consider the same.
A Reverence For The Game At Deer Run Golf Club
Any course that can combine a purist, historical reverence for the game alongside the epic, artistry of Led Zeppelin deserves kudo's from all corners of the room.
90 Years Young At Cannon Golf Club
The sheer number of courses that Twin City golfers have at their fingertips is enough to rattle the brain. If you want to clear your head and breath the fresh air among a stand of 100 year-old oaks while listening to a pristine river roll by, I suggest high-tailing it south to the Cannon Golf Club.
Crystal Lake Golf Club - "A-Maizing" Golf Lessons In Lakeville
Crystal Lake Golf Club Professional Sheryl Maize arrived to work in style on a blustery 50-degree Friday morning in May.Maize was decked out in a Blue Lagoon hat and Zo-On jacket that she earned after generating sold-out golf school classes during her four years of teaching in Iceland.
The Royal Golf Club - A Toast To The King And Queen!
Chances are you have not yet heard of The Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minnesota. This new golf course, opening (at least 9-holes) in late summer of 2017, has not received the pre-open hype of Sand Valley or Bandon Dunes. It was not created as a "Golf Buddies Weekend" type of golf course.
The Jewel Golf Club - Make Your Day
There's a golf course that I consider to be in the Top 5 Courses in the Twin Cities, in the Top 3 Courses in La Crosse, Wisconsin and the #1 Course in Rochester, Minnesota and it's not (technically) in any one of those metro areas.
The Bridges of Winona - Come On Over
By definition, bridges are built to make life easier - to facilitate and encourage travel from Point A to Point B. Many of those bridges become iconic, regionally, nationally and/or internationally.
The Bluffs At Coffee Mill - Wake Up Call
If coffee isn't enough to wake you up, add a little golf. It works in Wabasha, Minnesota - the nexus on picturesque Highway 61 between the Twin Cities and La Crosse, Wisconsin (an hour drive each way).
StoneRidge Golf Club - The Complete "Resort" Experience
A Golf Resort, by definition, offers the luxurious combination of lodging, dining, amenities and golfing at the same place. StoneRidge Golf Club in Stillwater doesn't offer on-site lodging, but through journalistic creativity I've managed to regard it as a build-your-own-golf resort experience just the same.
The Right Stuff At Stillwater Oaks Golf Course
Stillwater Oaks Golf Course continues its focus towards a better and more "fun" golfing experience. The course has been around for decades, but had a rebirth in 2014 when the management and the name was changed.
St. Croix National - Scenic And Steep
This is one interesting golf course. At times you will feel like your deep in the northern Minnesota woods, other times it feels like you're braving the windswept fairways of western Minnesota.
Red Wing Golf Club - Heart Of The River Valley Golf Trail
Barely over a half-hour drive from the Twin Cities, Red Wing Golf Club is nestled in the quiet, sandy bluffs along the Mississippi River in the beautiful Hiawatha River Valley.

I have the distinct benefit of living every day with the beauty of the Mississippi River Valley. Out my back window are views of the Mississippi River and the bluffs that follow the 'Big Muddy.'
Mississippi National Golf Links - Excuse Me While I Touch The Sky
Living in the land of lakes, it is easy and understandable to overlook the body of water that is most vital to Minnesota's geography and economy - the Mississippi River.
Killin' It At Kilkarney Hills
Some courses ease you into a round with a nice blend of easy holes to start things off. Then they show their fangs as the round unwinds. Kilkarney Hills is that type of course.
Gopher Hills - The Hills Are Alive
There are more than a hundred 27-hole golf courses in America. Slightly more than a dozen of them were designed by more than one architect. Only two of those feature an executive nine as one of their nines.
Dakota Pines Golf Club - History Rewritten
They have a saying at Dakota Pines Golf Club, "The name is new, but our fairways are filled with history." The former Hastings Country Club has been updated and was re-opened in 2016 under new ownership.
Clifton Highlands - Point Of Views
Long before civilian drone technology had been used on golf courses, Clifton Highlands Golf Club had the capability of taking drone-height aerial photography (without anyone leaving the ground).
Troy Burne Golf Club - A Wisconsin Top 10
To many Wisconsin golfers, Hudson, Wisconsin sounds like a long way away. Whether the trip takes an hour from Eau Claire, or four hours from Milwaukee, one thing is for sure, the golf experience at Troy Burne is exceptional.

When Tee Times asked General Manager and Head Golf Professional, Steve Bengtson, to describe his golf course, he said, "Whitefish is a comfortable place to play."
Wedgewood Cove On Pickerel Lake
What is the southernmost great course in Minnesota? That's easy, Wedgewood Cove. Head Golf Professional Donnie Teeter says, "We're kind of at the crossroads of everything here, and that's always worked great for us."
Superior National - Great Straits
The best golf course on Lake Michigan is Pete Dye's Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin. There is little debate about that.
Minnesota National Golf Course - Minnesota's Best Kept Secret
For the past several years this writer has been telling golfers about the excellent golf course in McGregor, Minnesota. This writer, previously a Golf Digest Course Rating Panelist, believes that Minnesota National Golf Course is one of Joel Goldstrand's very best.

There are four marquee golf resorts in the Brainerd Lakes area, all within ½ hour of Golden Eagle Golf Club, and ALL of them likely wish Golden Eagle was THEIR course.

For better or worse, we've all been places that are hard to describe. Mount Frontenac Golf Course, just south of Red Wing, is one of those places.
Ruttger's - Golf On The Quiet Side Of Brainerd
Before the turn of the century (the 20th Century) Joseph Ruttger, great grandfather of resort President, Chris Ruttger, would have never dreamed that his farm on Bay Lake would one day be on the quiet side of Brainerd.
Jackpot Junction And Dacotah Ridge - Rural Legend
The Minnesota River Valley is a great place to escape urban chaos (almost exactly halfway between the Twin Cities Metro and Sioux Falls) for a night or weekend, and Jackpot Junction Hotel and Casino lies comfortably in the heart of it.
Giants Ridge - Bigger Is Better
There are no other golf facilities in Minnesota with two championship courses worthy of being on "America's 100 Best Public Courses" list. Giants Ridge, with Legend and The Quarry, stands alone.
The Wilderness At Fortune Bay - Believe The Hyperbole
In January, the Golf News Network published a "50 Best Public Courses in America" list promoting The Wilderness in the same lofty company as the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, Bandon Dunes, Whistling Straits and, yes, even Pebble Beach.
Cragun's Resort And Hotel - Take Ten
When Midwest Living named Cragun's a "Top 10 Resort" they knew what their readers were looking for: an affordable, entertainment-packed getaway with gorgeous views, a serene setting and the potential to please kids, parents, hobbyists, professionals and everyone with an appetite of any nature.
Breezy Point Resort - Family First
Professionally speaking, as "family friendly" resorts in the Midwest go, the value and overall experience provided by Breezy Point resort is tough to beat, and the best part of that truth is the fact that all ages reap a similarly rich reward.
Minnesconsin Golf Trail: The Borderline's Best
Whether you're in Minnesota or Wisconsin, you're only one state away from amazing golf.

You see, in most categories, the best of Wisconsin and Minnesota are a relative toss-up.

Mississippi Dunes Golf Links - Redemption
The unending refrain in Minnesota golf throughout last summer, and on through the fall, was "What in the heck is going on at Mississippi Dunes?"

Timber Creek Golf Course - Offering A Challenge For Every Level Of Golfer
If you want to play golf at its purest and truest form - thinking a shot or two ahead instead of just gripping and ripping it down a straight fairway every time, then do yourself a favor and get out to Timber Creek Golf Course.
Pioneer Creek Golf Course - Gotta LOVE It
The Captain of America's Ryder Cup Team, as high in demand as his pre-tournament time is, spent the entire evening of September 12th (less than 20 miles from Hazeltine National) at Pioneer Creek - one of our truly great suburban golf gems.

Thirty miles northeast of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, in Stillwater - just west of the St. Croix River - is a one of a kind golf course with four (local) legendary architects and 18 high-value holes.
Keller Golf Course - Stellar Keller
If tradition and history are important to you then a round at Maplewood, Minnesota's Keller Golf Course should be as well.
Deer Run Golf Course - A Course For The People
To tell the story of Deer Run Golf Club is to tell the story of Tom Abts. Honest, entertaining, well-groomed and well-received, Deer Run, like its general manager and Head PGA Professional Tom Abts, wasn't always the well-oiled machine it is now.
Baker National Golf Course The 1957 Legislature's Golden Investment

Superior National Golf Course - Born Again
New golf courses open every year around the United States. The national publications stumble and stagger over themselves in awe and superlative acclaim of the breakthrough tracks and we pay attention and add some of them to our bucket lists.
Territory Golf Club - From Unknown To Unforgettable
You've heard the expression, "If I wanted your opinion, I'd give it to you." It's the not indirect way of saying, "I'll tell you what to think." Kind of a jerk move. Or is it?
The Wilds' Drone Creates A Buzz
When The Wilds Golf Club opened in 1995, most golfers were more likely to think the word "drone" meant a buzzing sound than an unmanned aircraft.
Mississippi National Golf Links - Two Much Love
You're guilty. As much as I am anyway. Guilty of breezing through pages in a golf magazine, checking out the pictures, only skimming the words. The question is... what's going to hook you?
Majestic Oaks - So Much More Than A Golf Course
The term that comes to mind when describing Majestic Oaks Golf Club is 'workhorse.' The staff has coined several other tongue-in-cheek monikers including: 'The Beast,' 'Entertainment Capital of Ham Lake' and 'Not Just a Golf Course, a Destination.'

Treasure Island's Mount Frontenac Golf Course - Minnesota Golf's Most Anticipated Drive
Mount Frontenac Golf Course, located 10 miles south of Red Wing, is home to Minnesota's most anticipated drive to a golf course. You may be saying, "Even more anticipated than Hazeltine, more than the TPC, and more than Fortune Bay?" The answer is, "Yes, yes, and yes."
Wedgewood Cove Golf Club - Middle Of Everywhere
Every town needs a playground, a grocery store, gas station, library and golf course. Every town needs all of those amenities. (Not necessarily in that order though - obviously the golf course should come first.)
The Links At NorthFork - Real Links Experience, Right Here At Home
I have never crossed the Atlantic Ocean, but I imagine The Links at NorthFork to be as authentic of a links course as there can be this side of the pond.
StoneRidge Golf Club - A Marquee Monopoly
There are few courses in any state that command the same level of respect for their food as they do for their golf. Right off the bat, it's important you know that is absolutely the case for StoneRidge.
Playing For Keeps At Mississippi Dunes
Few golf courses in the world can claim to have the type of vista views and direct connection to a national treasure like the Mississippi Dunes. It's in the name, it comes into view on nearly half of the holes, and its right outside the Twin Cities' backdoor... it's the mighty Mississippi.
Heritage Links Golf Club - Hit It With Your Best Shot
We all know that there's lots of variety in the game of golf. We all have our favorite manufacturers of the equipment we use and the clothes we wear. Some people hit the ball high, others low.
On A Roll At Southern Hills
The name Southern Hills conjures up a genteel, slow-paced way of life minding its own business somewhere off the radar, but nothing could be farther from the truth for this hard-working, ever-growing gem of a course.

GreyStone, a Tom Lehman Signature Course, is located only four miles north of Sauk Centre and 92 miles west of Maple Grove.

Voyager Village - Bon Voyage
I can't get away from this title (I've admittedly used a variation of it before). It's just too perfect to pass on.

A quote from Doug Hanson, General Manager, "We are getting more and more golfers from across the river. Those Twin Cities golfers really appreciate our excellent conditions and fair pricing."

Royal Golf Club Is Coming In 2017
When discussing golf, there are a select few individuals who are recognized by just their first name. If someone were to say, "Arnie, Annika, and Hollis," most Minnesota and Wisconsin golfers could fill in the last names, "Palmer, Sorenstam, and Cavner."

The Wilds is one of those unique golfing communities that really has it all: championship quality golf designed by legendary architects, beautiful homes throughout the community, pristine vistas, and a world class clubhouse perfect for any event, wedding, or golf outing.
Territory Golf Club - Close To Comfort
How do you measure proximity? Do you consider 70 miles a long ways? I usually do, no matter what it's for. The Mall of America is a long way to go from Rochester to fulfill my son's Panda Express "needs," for instance.
Take Me Back to StoneRidge
It's official! Golfers are paying attention to Ian Poulter and Rickie Fowler. If there is any doubt in your mind, you should have seen the wardrobes on display at StoneRidge Golf Club on the Friday prior to the 4th of July.

In March of 2014, after years of struggling to find its permanent owners, Riverwood National of Otsego finally received the financial stability it had been waiting for.
Crystal Lake Golf Club - Country Club Conditions At A Public Course Value
As I write this, Jordan Spieth just missed out on his opportunity to take the third leg of golf's Grand Slam. He played well, but a few killer mistakes cost him his chance to claim the Claret Jug. The closest regular PGA TOUR stop to Minnesota is several hours to our southeast in Silvis, Illinois, at TPC Deere Run for the aptly named John Deere Classic.
The Jewel Golf Club - Effort Breeds Success And A Great Golf Course!
We're somewhat golf deprived in southern Minnesota. Our best course is in Byron and it's private. If we're honest (by definition) we don't have a single legitimate public access championship course in the southeast, and only Dakota Ridge in the southwest.

Here's guessing - right off the bat - that if you're traveling to or from the Central or Northwestern parts of Minnesota, you're not doing so on U. S. Route 10.
Gopher Hills Golf Course - What's In A Name?
I haven't really done any research on this, but if I had to take a wild guess, I'd bet that the three most common words used in a golf course's name are "oaks," "pines," and "hills."
Eagle Trace Golf Club - Running Along Two Miles Of The Mississippi River

Before we get lost in the whole Right Wing, Left Wing political storm rolling our way, let's get into the Red Wing debate - one far more relevant to the majority of our audience.
Bristol Ridge Golf Course - Golf For Red October

Kendall's Tavern & Chophouse is an independent restaurant and bar concept located at Bunker Hills Golf Club and managed by Morrissey Hospitality Companies, Inc.
Jackpot Junction & Dacotah Ridge - Sweet Roll
I have terrible luck at the tables. I have equally terrible luck with bounces on the golf course. Fortunately (for those who take my money) neither shortcoming keeps me away from golf OR gaming places I love to visit - namely any facility with eighteen holes and/or a casino near a lake.
Madden's On Gull Lake - Bringing Up North South
Minnesotans don't consider Brainerd "Up North." We tend to reserve that distinction for places like Ely, Tower and International Falls. But people in Iowa consider Albert Lea "Up North" so I guess it depends on how you look at it, or where you look at "it" from.
Wedgewood Cove Golf Club: It Just Keeps Getting Better
Wedgewood Cove, located in Albert Lea, is one of the best golfing experiences you will have in this state. Unlike some of the parkland and Northwoods courses that rightly receive their accolades, Wedgewood Cove has been blessed with a layout that takes golf back to its origins, and it stands as the gem of Southern Minnesota.
The Links at NorthFork: Minnesota Links Legacy

Seeing Is Believing At Oak Marsh

Sweet Music At Deer Run Golf Club
If Deer Run Golf Club were a symphony orchestra it would make incredible music.

The ones who know where the true beauty of the state lies: north and/or throughout the Mississippi River Valley.
Troy Burne - Sweet 16 and Never Better
When Tom Lehman and Steve Stricker teed off for Troy Burne's inaugural round back in 1999, the golf world was in full throttle. The month of May is rife with beginnings and endings. It marks the (almost) end of the school year and the beginning of summertime. It's the end (hopefully) of colder weather and the true beginning of golf season. It's also the end of the TV season and the beginning of reruns.

Answer: A perfectly conditioned golf course with great views and an attentive staff with lots of inventive ideas to make golf fun for you!

Clifton Hollow Golf Club - Great Golf Is Just The Beginning
The whiskey still of Clifton Hollow? Folklore has it that in the early 1900's a pair of "entrepreneurial" gentlemen developed a recipe for whiskey that was unrivaled in the region. Invisible from the law, they discreetly hid their still on what is now Clifton Hollow Golf Club.

Cragun's Resort And Hotel On Gull Lake Presents The $600 Challenge
Let's start where we're going to end... with a loaded question. What is the best $600 you can spend in golf? I'd never thought of it before until Cragun's General Manager Eric Peterson asked me. Good question, though.

Breezy Point - Easy Breezy
Some places make excellence seem easy - effortless. Imagine opening to this page and seeing just that one sentence - with the rest of the page blank. You'd think there'd been a printing error

Muni's On The Mend - Municipal Golf Gets A Facelift
People do things for different reasons! Therefore it would seem that groups of people (like elected officials, park boards, city councils or mayors) do things for different reasons.
Celebrating The 100th Anniversary Of Red Wing Golf Club
In 1915, Woodrow Wilson was our President, Babe Ruth was still a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, and Germany dropped bombs from zeppelins on Great Britain. 1915 was also the year that the Red Wing Golf Club opened for business.
Winter Entertainment At Bulrush Golf Club
QUESTION: Should golfers in Minnesota be forced to watch golf on a big screen TV in an attempt to cure the winter blahs?
ANSWER: No they should not, Bulrush Golf Club has everything included in the Golf Doctor's prescription: Golf! Pizza! Beer!

Totally Driven - Where You Might Find That Perfect Holiday Gift
I was watching Christina Kim win the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in sudden death, I could not figure out what Christina was doing as she held up two fingers or sometimes three fingers to read the line of her putt.
It's Always Golf Season At The Life Time Golf Club, And You Don't Even Have To Be A Member!

Burnsville Indoor Golf - It's All About the Place
There's A Lot of Green Golf in Burnsville in January... all winter long to be exact. At least there used to be. Perhaps now is as good a time as any to tell you they've revamped and enhanced not only their facilities but their name. Allow me to introduce you formally to Burnsville Indoor Golf.
The Jewel Golf Club - Southeast Minnesota's Precious Property
If you've ever made your way down to Lake Pepin in the Southeast part of the state, you've seen how scenic that drive is. Whether your route stays in Minnesota or crosses the border into Wisconsin doesn't matter; it is beautiful either way. If you want to make that drive even better, then be sure to add a round of golf at The Jewel before you head back home.
The Bridges Golf Club - Absolutely Not A Bridge Too Far
I get asked all the time where I prefer to golf in southeastern Minnesota. The Jewel comes off my tongue before the question is finished. (No brainer.) And? Cannon Golf Club. (Still too easy.) And? The Bridges in Winona. (No question.) Really? Absolutely. Sure, it's a little bit more out of my way than the other two, but - like the other two - it is every penny worth the drive.
Mount Frontenac - More For Less
There are few places in Minnesota more beautiful than the Mississippi River valley in the fall. And guess what - sad but true for golfers - fall is already right around the corner. Golfers are able to take advantage of that autumn beauty like few other hobbyists on earth, by being out there; smack dab in the middle of it all. And at Mount Frontenac you couldn't get more for less than you more or less do.
Mississippi National Golf Links
In the days before interstate highways, America's rivers were the most efficient ways to travel and transport goods from producers to consumers. From the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul on the north end to the port city of New Orleans on the south end, communities, located along the Mississippi River prospered, then grew into towns and finally cities.

Cannon Golf Club - Cover Model
For years I've fired up locals by claiming Cannon Golf Club is one the best golf courses just south of the Metro. Thirty minutes for great golf beats five minutes to a so-so local course. But when you're an admitted "golf snob" the options can be limited. You deserve the truth. Of the hundred or so public choices south of the Twin Cities, only a dozen of them deserve your money, and Cannon Golf Club is certainly in the top tier of that dozen.
Hidden Greens Golf Course - Hidden Seek
The name of this course says a lot about it. It tells you about the seclusion - about the sounds of silence and natural beauty you know you're going to find in "Southern Minnesota's Brainerd." (It's located in a game refuge. No intruding homes.) The title also tells you about the design of the course and the fact that not everything is right out there in front of you. You have to find it.
Mississippi Dunes Golf Links - A Day At Mississippi Dunes
There is no better course that exemplifies this month's theme of Rolling On The River than Mississippi Dunes Golf Links. The Dunes is not just near the river, in the river valley or overlooking the river - it's ON the river. With three holes running along the river and their 3,000 feet of shoreline; you can't get much closer to the river than that.
River Falls Golf Club - A Historic Golf Course In A Historic Community
In the summer of 1848, after his tour of duty in the Mexican War, Joel Foster visited St. Croix County, near Hudson, WI. Foster spent several weeks exploring the area along the St. Croix River while he relaxed, hunted and fished. One day while fishing the Kinnickinnic River, he discovered the impressive falls where the South Fork meets the Kinnickinnic.
Kilkarney Hills Golf Course - A Touch Of Ireland In Western Wisconsin
If your golf dream budget can't quite accommodate the dollars needed to fly eight hours to Ireland, there is a wonderfully economic alternative in River Falls, WI. Kilkarney Hills is just a 25-mile trek from St. Paul. The golf course is Pat O'Malley Sr.'s fond tribute to the landscape he viewed while flying over Ireland as a American Airlines pilot back in the 1980s.
St. Croix National Golf Club - Golf's Fall Color Epicenter in Somerset, WI
You better make your St. Croix National tee times today if you want to experience one of Western Wisconsin's most spectacular courses for fall colors. That's because photographers choose September and October as their favorite months for becoming a golf enthusiast, and St. Croix National's alpine-like elevations are a camera buff's dream come true.
Golden Eagle Golf Club - Golden Eagle Is Bruce McIntosh's Baby!
When you call Golden Eagle Golf Club to make your tee time reservation, chances are you will talk to Bruce. When you enter the pro shop to pay your green fee, chances are you will pay Bruce for the privilege of playing his wonderful golf course. When the winner buys those rounds of beer, chances are Kathy McIntosh, Bruce's wife, who manages the grill, will serve you.

Grand View Lodge - Nearly 100 Years Of World-Class Service
In 2016 Grand View Lodge will celebrate 100 years of providing a quality resort experience. "Why should golfers care?" you ask? Because Grand View Lodge, owned and operated by the Cote Family since its origin, has been in a continuous state of metamorphosis since the early 1900's.
Dahlgreen Golf Club - A Family Farm Morphed Into A Beautiful Golf Experience
Brothers Dave and Steve Tessman manage Dahlgreen Golf Club. The property was converted from their family's dairy farm to a golf course and opened in 1969. Their dad who was head of x-ray at Methodist Hospital, across the street from Meadowbrook, opened
The Wilds Golf Club - Customer Service Becomes King
When the developers of The Wilds Golf Club retained Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish to design a very upscale public golf course on a beautiful piece of property southwest of the Twin Cities, they knew they would get an excellent golf course that would enhance the value of the upscale housing that would be discretely located around the golf course.

Tartan Park - The Gift That Keeps Giving
It's almost impossible to overstate the significance of 3M to Minnesota. Not only does the mega-company employ infinite locals, but it gives and gives back to the community beyond what can possibly be measured. You can take the 3M Championship for example, celebrated again this year in Blaine.
Heritage Links Golf Club - A Links Legacy In Lakeville
Harry Vardon contributed many lasting legacies to golf that still exist today: he taught us the grip with interlocking fingers ("Vardon grip"), showed us that more comfortable golf clothing results in better play, and also provided the sport with a superstar - winning seven majors - in the years between the duo of Old Tom and Young Tom Morris and the legendary Bobby Jones.
Deer Run Golf Club - The Buck Stretches Here
The southwest metro area of the Twin Cities is a hotbed of Minnesota golf. You could even call it the Brainerd of the Twin Cities. There are lakes, links, legends, and even an alternate kind of loon (the human kind). You don't know how great the golf is going to be, but you do know that it's going to be great. Just look at this incredible land - how could it not be?
Mississippi Dunes Golf Links - Minnesota's Pinehurst #2
Watching back-to-back U.S. Opens at Pinehurst #2, an American links style course to this writers experienced eye, Mississippi Dunes resembles Pinehurst #2 more than any golf course that I have ever played. If you would love to play Pinehurst #2, then you must experience Mississippi Dunes.
Mississippi National Golf Links - Reborn
Minnesota is known best as the state of hockey. It is also quite often referred to as the state of purple and gold, and, lest we forget, Goldy Gopher or the Minnesota Twins?
It's Finally Here! The 2014 Golf Season Is Open For Business!
The winter is finally over! This weekend will be a great weekend to get out and play. Here is a list of when courses are opening up. Some courses are walking only and some are allowing carts. Please check with each course for details.
Golf Zone - Stay In The Zone, All Winter Long
As a golfer of any caliber, when you pull into the parking lot at Golf Zone, you are immediately in your element. Stepping from your vehicle you are surrounded by an outdoor, real grass, putting and chipping oasis. But that's just a teaser to the real treat inside.
Chip & Putt Center of Golden Valley
When the men's and women's golf teams from the University of Minnesota use your facility for their practice and instruction, you know you've got the makings of a successful business. Add in the local high schools that have already started to call and schedule for Fall and Winter sessions and you've got it made.
Minnesota Golf Academy - Stay On Track (Man) This Winter
Just a couple quick turns off of Highway 169, in Eden Prairie, this renovated warehouse is a golfer's dream. It's possible you haven't yet heard about it, if you don't watch TV, listen to the radio, get out of bed if there's snow on the ground, read, or attend golf shows... otherwise I'm sure you're already a regular here, right?
The Heights Indoor Golf At Stillwater Bowl
Living in Minnesota, we are blessed (or some would say cursed), with having four seasons; summer, fall, winter, and spring. We don't always get all four, but we can typically count on at least two, summer and winter.
Cragun's Legacy Indoor Golf
Cragun's Legacy Clubhouse is open for special events and weddings during the offseason and now is also available daily for indoor golf and complete game improvement instruction with PGA Master Professional Chris Foley.
Bunker Hills Simulator Lounge
I've never been to Bunker Hills Golf Club before. Don't ask me how that's possible. Given how highly the other people on this staff regard the place, (especially their famed Sunday Brunch) you'd think I'd have driven up there in the last three years. Well, there's no time like the present... as winter knocks on our door.
Dacotah Ridge - It All Adds Up
It's hard to imagine what made Rees Jones, one of the greatest architects in the history of golf (and son of another one - Robert Trent Jones), decide to come out here to Southwest Minnesota of all places and create this masterpiece surrounded by golden fields of corn and tall, tall grass. Probably money. Well, if that is what it was, whatever he got, he should have gotten more.
Legacy Golf Course in Faribault - The Story Behind The Name
Have you ever glanced at the name on the side of a boat and wondered how it came to be? The same thought holds true with golf courses. Legacy Golf Course in Faribault has a name and a history that directly ties to the lush land the course sits on. Upon digging into Legacy's 1998 opening and what's transpired since, you come to realize how well this name fits.
Cannon Golf Club - Having A (Cannon) Ball
Great golf arcs around the southern Twin Cities like scattered rays of sunshine. Southwest to Dacotah Ridge, straight south to Wedgwood Cove, southeast to the Jewel, you know about all of those... but what about what's in between? Cannon Golf Club is closer than the aforementioned three, just north of Cannon Falls (and West of 52) and well worth its own drive. Commuters to and from Rochester pass it every day, and likely press their longing faces against their windows while doing so. (Can't be just me.) It looks like a great place to play, and those fortunate (and/or wise) enough to exit and give it a shot (give or take 90) realize its genuine greatness.
The Bluffs At Coffee Mill - Taking Your Game To A Higher Level
New owners of any enterprise typically have plenty of new ideas. A grand scheme. Ways to make everything better. But everyone knows that (no matter how small, or how necessary) CHANGE is most often resisted, and taking over a golf course isn't like taking over a home. Even when it's "yours" you don't get to make all the decisions yourself; not when you have (and greatly value) hundreds of other opinions. No move is a private move in public golf course ownership.
Mount Frontenac - Breathtaking Golf
Like any golfer who cares about where they play golf, I always check out the website to see what I'm in for. Whether intentionally clever or not, Mount Frontenac's home page gives away little, and leaves you wanting to see more. And just a little south of Red Wing, (less than an hour from St. Paul) towering above (and directly adjacent to) gorgeous Lake Pepin and the Hiawatha Valley, I got a whole lot more. (Especially in their locally renowned views.) The closing of Mississippi National has been a boon to Mount Frontenac, as hundreds to thousands of golfers looking to replace the cliff-top views there, were able to find them here.
Troy Burne - A Fall Golf Treat
Aeration!! Aerification!! Punching the greens!!
Question: Why do golf course superintendents punch holes into their beautiful greens every fall, making them nearly unplayable for the balance of the season?
Answer: Aeration is a necessary evil.

No Fall Aeration At Troy Burne!
Any day of the year is a good day to play the great golf course at Troy Burne Golf Club, but area golfers seeking a quality golf experience (In the Fall) flock to Troy Burne because the greens are PERFECT!

The Bridges Golf Club - Bridging The Gap
I've been saying it for years, and finally had the chance to write about it to thousands of you last year. "The Bridges is THE biggest golf surprise in the "gap" between the Twin Cities and La Crosse." At the La Crosse Golf Show, early this year, I found that (like Christopher Columbus and America) I wasn't nearly the first person to make that great discovery.
Indian Hills
Golf Club - A Golfer's Golf Club
Indian Hills hosted my high school's team matches back in the mid seventies and has consistently been a gracious host of events in which I've participated as well as statewide competitions I've followed over the years. So the drive out Highway 36 past 694 to the finely groomed 170-acre track located between North St. Paul and Stillwater stirs memories and coddles anticipation.
Breezy Point Acquires Deacon's Lodge Golf Course - (Yes...That Deacon's Lodge)
Wait...What? As in THE Deacon's Lodge? The lake-laced tree-lined rocking and rolling Arnold Palmer design in Brainerd? The #2 Golf Course on GolfWeek's Best in State for Minnesota? That Deacon's Lodge?
Giants Ridge - Two Legit
Giants Ridge is well known to avid skiers, boarders and snowmobilers across the region for its phenomenal slopes, conditions, and trails. That's great. I love the notion of cutting through thick drifts of snow on a lightning fast sheet of shaped fiberglass as much as anyone, but count myself with the thousands around here that are absolutely thrilled when Giants Ridge shuts down for the winter... cause that means the best is right around the corner. You see when the mountain slopes close the green slopes open, and one of the few destinations in the country that can claim two Top 100 public tracks opens. Stir-crazy golfers pack away their snow gear; pack up their clubs and jet up here in droves.
Whitefish Golf Club - You'll Like It Here
When the modern era of golf course architecture emerged with a merged emphasis on target-golf, the game was lead into the arms of extreme difficulty, and demanding golf for the average player became more than a wee bit of too much to take. Bunker-lined fairways, Atlantic Ocean length carries, and trees hovering frightfully over tee-boxes, sadly, morphed into what is now known as the new normal in golf design.
Madden's On Gull Lake - Better Than The Best
To a generation of video gamers, the name "Madden" is synonymous with greatness. People hear the name "Madden" and they think of football. Similarly, to several generations of Minnesotan's, Midwesterner's and beyond, the "Madden's" name is also synonymous with greatness, albeit in an entirely different realm. You see, in these parts, when we hear the name Madden(s)... we think of golf. Great golf.
Breezy Point Resort - Beauty And The Breeze
When GolfWeek releases their "Best Courses You Can Play in Each State" list, everyone flips to his or her own state of residence to see where each course ranks. At Breezy Point a great deal has changed from the release of last year's list. They went from not having a course in the Top 20 in Minnesota, to having a course in the Top 3! Whoa... what?
River Falls Golf Club - Historic Value
It seems that fewer and fewer people are taking family road trips, I don't think any one of us can deny ever hearing the phrase, "are we there yet?" If you are not a regular traveler to Western Wisconsin, some might think that is the case when crossing the river to play River Falls Golf Club in River Falls. That couldn't be further from the truth. Just 10 minutes southeast of Hudson (at 65 mph the entire way), River Falls Golf Club is about 30 minutes from St. Paul.
Crystal lake - A Crystal Clear Choice
"Have you played Crystal Lake in Lakeville?" A golfing friend asked me a couple of weeks ago. "Ain't never been, but I'd sure like to go," I sung in my best Jimmy Buffet voice. "Oh, man, you will love the place!" he told me with excitement. And so, an early morning trip to Crystal Lake Golf Club in Lakeville was scheduled for a few days later.
Hidden Greens - No Gimmicks
Say what you will, but I'm kind of a purist when it comes to most things regarding golf. One of my biggest pet peeves regarding golf today is the number of golf courses that seem to have been designed by people who don't know anything about golf. There are far too many courses out there that have all sorts of gimmicks and force "signature holes" into their layouts. I don't mind hard courses. In fact, I like the challenge, but if a course is made up of tricks, layups, long commutes between holes and blind shots, I don't really want to come back.
The Jewel Golf Club In Lake City - The 5 Best Reasons To Play The Jewel
If your buddies have discussed the idea of a golf road trip this summer, keep reading for five great reasons to play The Jewel in Lake City, MN. Just over an hour's drive from St. Paul, The Jewel was recognized by Golf Week in 2011 as the one of the three best public courses to play in Minnesota.
Hudson Golf Club - One Wild Ride
With all the courses in the area to choose from, it's not easy to pick some place new. We've all got our regulars, places that we return to often. If you'll take one golf guy's suggestion, take a short drive into Wisconsin and play Hudson Golf Club. Measuring 6,049 yards from the white tees and 6,435 from the blues, it's not a long course by any means. But it's not the yardage that makes Hudson GC a challenge; it's the changes in elevation that make the course what it is.
The Wilds Golf Club - Golf Gone Wild!
Few people would describe the Twin Cities area as "wilderness" but at least a part of it is. Central Minnesota is surrounded by and dotted with lakes, marsh, pine forests, fields, etc... and a great deal of those elements are displayed in full splendor at several of the area golf courses. The rule, no exception, (exceptional as it may be) is The Wilds. This Weiskopf/Morrish design gives you all the "wild" you'll want, with plenty of opportunities to "tame" each hole, as great scoring opportunities abound throughout.
The Wilderness At Fortune Bay
Every time I look at the Minnesota state quarter I think of The Wilderness at Fortune Bay. Not sure if that's odd or not. A glance at the loon, fishing boat and tree lined lake (on the "tails" side) takes me to the Lake Vermilion coastline of hole 13 where every year I've seen a loon, (the same loon the quarter designer saw I'm sure) there are always a few fishing boats, and the tall pines beautifully define the property lines and many a magnificent golf hole.
Thumper Pond Resort, a resort hotel, restaurant, indoor water park and golf course near Otter Tail Lake is a perfect place for a mini-vacation! For golfers and non-golfers.
Most golfers like to take golf trips with their buddies or family members. As much as golfers love to return to familiar venues, where they experience few surprises, they seem to continually be in a quest for something new; new golf challenges, new restaurant menu, new drives through unexplored country with a surprise around every corner, even a tube ride on the lazy river.
Grand National At Grand Casino Hinckley - Two Grand
Thousands of golfers head north on I35 from the Twin Cities each year towards Tower, Biwabik and Lutsen and, about halfway to each you pass by a Stay & Play destination (in Hinckley) that would serve all as the perfect pit stop and/or tune-up to/from any of those places.
Purple Hawk Country Club - Have Fun At Purple Hawk
Having last played "The Hawk" a little more than 20 years ago, I couldn't wait to get out on the course and see how it has matured after all these years. After choosing the proper tees to play (tee it forward), you will experience what I feel can make or break a whole round of golf; the first hole!
St. Croix National Golf Club - High, Placid Times At St. Croix National Golf Club
Mirroring the passage of Earthly time, the grounds of St. Croix National Golf Club in Somerset, WI were once dominated by snow, and cold and ice. But one need not search through the millennia to locate such traces of the past upon this undulating terrain, 30-years ago, this plot of hallowed nature was employed as a ski resort before it became a golf course. The resulting turf is a routing of literal highs and lows that count St. Croix National among the most unique courses in the region.
Wild Marsh - A Graham Marsh Original
If you're like me, you've noticed some courses have names that really don't make much sense. Either there's some obscure, long since forgotten reference that led to the course's name, or someone just pulled it out of a hat. Wild Marsh Golf Club in Buffalo, is not one of those courses.
Bunker Hills Golf Club - Making A New Memory
From the outside, Bunker Hills appears to still be a beauty. I was impressed by the log cabin and stone exterior gracing the club's event center, their Harvest Grill restaurant, and the Pro Shop. This golf course, which opened in 1968, seemed to have taken excellent care of herself. From the outside, I was seeing attributes that I had somehow missed before.
Pebble Creek - Golf Courses In Becker Are Closer Than They Appear
Pebble Creek is located less than 50 miles from the heart of downtown Minneapolis. If you drive like my dad you could be there in 40 minutes. Drive like my mom and you'd still make it in less than three hours. It's worth noting that because the biggest detractor they hear associated with their course has absolutely nothing to do with their course and everything to do with misperception. Distance. It is NOT that far to Pebble Creek.
Territory Golf Club - St. Cloud Nines
I thought I had played all the best courses in the state of Minnesota. Territory took me completely by surprise. I should've known better though. Tradition Golf courses, Legends and TC of Iowa, are among my favorites in their respective states. I should've seen this coming. And yet, in a way, I'm kind of glad I didn't.

Legends Club - Locked And Loaded
Edina's Tradition Golf manages a strong portfolio of signature golf properties that is only getting stronger. From its flagship course Legends Club in Prior Lake, to one of Iowa's best The Tournament Club, to one of the Twin Cities' best value (and wildest) rounds at Willinger's, to their newest addition on the Metro side of St. Cloud... Territory Golf Club.
FROM THE ARCHITECT'S DESK - Renovating A Golf Course
As golf course architects, there are many issues that we need to consider when deciding how or why to renovate a golf course. Most often, when I get a call from an owner or a golf course manager, they are usually looking to make changes that they hope will increase the popularity of their course and lead to increased membership or improved revenue. When I get the call from the golf course superintendent, it's often because they are looking for ways to improve course conditioning and turf quality or because they are simply looking for advice on how to fix a particular problem. We do a lot of what we call "long range master planning" for golf courses.
Willingers Golf Club - Pretty Close
The next person who justifies not going to Willingers because it is too far from the Cities is going to get punched in the big toe. It's perhaps too far from Alaska... a tad too far from South Africa... and reasonably too far to walk from Hawaii. But too far from the Cities??? Come on. At $39 for 18 on weekdays and $49 on weekends, you better have a more legitimate reason than "It is too far." Especially since it isn't.

Windsong Farm - Pitch Perfect
Laughter echoes across the rolling fairways, families and friends scattered across the indoor and outdoor patios of the Windsong Farm clubhouse... savoring a perfect evening in the country, embers glowing and logs crackling in the fire pits, toasting happiness before a glowing cloud and sunset audience. A par-4 fairway away, lights come on in the brand new two-story guest lodge, the Murphy House, adjacent the stunning 18th hole waterfall, decked out with floor to ceiling windows and comfortable Adirondack chairs.

White Eagle Golf Club
I know a guy who calls himself "The Walking Eagle." He's quite a character and a lot of fun to play golf with. He's earned the name, he says, because he's so full of crap that he can't fly. All joking aside, if you're looking for a golf course with a lot of character that's fun to play, then cross the border into Wisconsin and play White Eagle Golf Club.
Gopher Hills - Beyond Expectations
When looking at "About the Course" on the Gopher Hills website it starts out: "With 27 holes on three distinctive nines....". That couldn't be truer and the variety of each nine (The Heath, The Glen, and Executive Nine) is one of the reasons golfers return to Gopher Hills.
Clifton Highlands Golf Club - Expect The Unexpected
The summer season is flying by and you've yet to take your annual golf road trip. Clifton Highlands in Prescott, WI, offers a best of both worlds excursion for Midwest golfers seeking a fresh experience to their favorite game. Not only is Clifton Highlands a great retreat for golfers seeking top-flight conditions and exceptional value on your pocketbook, the course is just a 30- minute drive from St. Paul.
Wedgewood Cove - Continues To Deliver An Outstanding Experience
"We are who we are and we like it that way."
- Wedgewood Cove Director of Golf Donnie Teeter

When a writer has written multiple articles about a single golf course in a short time span, it's easy to allow the adjectives to get stale and the descriptions to get repetitive. Likewise, when a golfer plays the same course repeatedly, he or she is bound to learn every nuance, break, and blind line on the track that will take the suspense out of the round.

The Links At NorthFork: Minnesota's Homage To The Home Of Golf
When golfers consider the efforts made in this state to provide a test of golf that has as much of a "links" feel as you can get, the conversation has to start with The Links at NorthFork. Often, you'll see "links" in the title of a course, and it is usually a misnomer that the owner felt would make their property more desirable to play. Not here!
StoneRidge Golf Club - Links Style Golf At Its Finest
Tee Times is once again doing a feature on "links style" golf courses in Minnesota for the July issue. This series is done to bring attention to The Open Championship, and to give golfers some idea of where they can experience the feeling and challenges of links style golf.
Mississippi Dunes - One Of A Kind
Sprawled out about the backwaters of the Mississippi River just about 1 mile southeast of the outskirts of Cottage Grove, is a more than just visually pleasing public golf course and wedding planner's dream. See, the history and back story behind Mississippi Dunes Golf Links is one laden with tales of splendor that convert to equal beautiful memories...
The 10 - Hiawatha Golf Club
Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) golf courses that circled the thriving downtown area. With the experience gained from developing the four older siblings, one would think that the MPRB and Theodore Wirth would have had an easy time developing Hiawatha Golf Club, not so! 150 years ago Rice Lake (Lake Hiawatha) was a place where Native Americans harvested wild rice. Wirth, who hated marshland and swamps, envisioned Rice Lake (renamed Lake Hiawatha after Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's epic poem Song of Hiawatha) as a perfect location for the fifth golf course for the MPRB. Construction of Hiawatha Golf Club was started in 1929 but the course was not open for play until 1934.
The Jack - Meadowbrook Golf Club
Meadowbrook opened for play in 1926, as the fourth sibling of the collaboration of Theodore Wirth and William Clark. People loved the new course that was built along gorgeous Minnehaha Creek (the brook in the name). It was the second Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) course to have grass greens and tees. Meadowbrook Golf Club quickly developed a national reputation as a great golf course and was awarded the prestigious USGA Public Links Championship in 1948.
The Queen - Gross National Golf Club
The story behind Gross National Golf Club, opened in 1925, reads like a modern day soap opera. Gross was the troubled child, but like many troubled children she turned out great when she grew up. Like its two older siblings Wirth and Columbia, Gross National Golf Club (originally Armour Golf Course), was the creation of Theodore Wirth and William Clark. However, this time the idea for the golf course was not that of Theodore Wirth.
The Ace - Wirth Golf Club
If Theodore Wirth is the father of Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) golf courses, then appropriately - the first-born child should be named after the father. Glenwood Golf Course, built in Glenwood Park, which then became Theodore Wirth Golf Course and Theodore Wirth Park when it was renamed (after its father) in 1938. The golf course was approved in April constructed in May and opened the original 9-hole sand green course with clay tee boxes, in June of 1916 at a total cost of $500.
The King - Columbia Golf Club
With the stunning success of Glenwood Park Golf Course, Theodore Wirth convinced Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) members it was time to create a sibling or second golf course. In 1919, the year that Glenwood Golf Course was expanded to 18-holes, MPRB opened a 6-hole sand green course at Columbia Park. The golf course, located just minutes from downtown along Central Avenue was an immediate success.
From The Architect's Desk - Keeper Of The Green
Golf courses are essentially big parks where land gets set aside as open space as opposed to being turned in to housing developments or some other more-intensive use. Some golf courses are developed or owned by cities, counties or park boards and some are privately owned as a for-profit business enterprise. In other cases, the development of a golf course is undertaken as part of a residential development to provide an amenity that will help increase lot values, accelerate lot sales or meet park dedication requirements.
Cragun's - A 9.5 Star Resort
For all the acclaim their Brainerd Lakes neighbors get, it would be easy to overlook Cragun's Resort. But that would be a significant mistake! Cragun's provides many of the same resort amenities as the others: cabins, lakeside/lake-view lodging, a spa, spectacular service and tons of watersports activities.
Deer Run Golf Club - We Know It's Fun At The Run, But Who Has Those Great Ideas That Make Golfers Want To Return?
Those of us old enough to remember Mr. Ed, the talking horse from the TV series of the same name, will recall that Mr. Ed had a special insight and was able to relate that insight to Wilber, his owner.

Play Where Arnie Plays - The Benefits of Membership at TPC Twin Cities
So you're socializing with golfing friends and discussing the upcoming season. A newcomer to the group asks if anyone is a member at a private club. This is when you casually mention that your course, TPC Twin Cities, is the only one in the Minnesota to regularly host a PGA TOUR Champions Tour event.
The Wilderness At Fortune Bay - Call of the Wild
A well-known Bible story has Moses stranded in the wilderness for 40 years. His fortune... pretty unfortunate. We're left to assume his "wilderness" had to have been pretty rough. Pretty barren. Pretty much not pretty. Clearly he wasn't in Northern Minnesota... or he'd have asked God to stay another 40.
Golden Eagle Golf Club - Mission Accomplished
Take a look around. This is really going to be good." Whether it was Bruce McIntosh (owner and man with the plan) saying it to his co-designer Mike Morley, or Mike (14 year PGA TOUR Vet and course designer extraordinaire) saying it to "Mac", the message was concise and clear. "Let's not mess this up."
Madden's Launches Caddie Service For The 2013 Season
The Classic at Madden's is the first public course in Minnesota to offer professional caddie expertise. Madden's an award-winning resort and vacation destination located on Brainerd's Gull Lake, is providing golfers with the ultimate links experience by launching caddie services for The Classic at Madden's, the resort's five-star, top 100 ranked course

Bunker Hills and GolfTEC: A Perfect Fit
The PGA Tour has finished the two Hawaii tournaments and has moved on to its west coast swing. Pitchers and catchers report to baseball's Spring Training in just about a week. The winter sports in high schools are getting ready for playoffs and State Tournament time. What this all means is that golf season is getting closer every day.
A Lot Of Green Golf
During this off-season, golfers on the south side of town will find a very pleasant surprise at A Lot of Green Golf. You've seen the golf dome just south of the intersection of County Road 42 and Burnsville Parkway for years, but you haven't seen the great changes and improvements that have been made this fall to make A Lot of Green Golf even better than it was before.
The Bunker Indoor Golf
Looking to keep your competitive edge, feed your desire for competition, or just want to hit some golf balls in a controlled environment? The Bunker Indoor Golf Center located in Minnetonka is your answer.
Acceleration Golf And Fitness
Being a golfer from Wisconsin, no matter how good of shape I am in (or not) I can always expect a little soreness after my first few rounds of the new golf season. After 5 to 6 months off of swinging a golf club is all it takes for the muscles to get lazy.
The Heights Indoor Golf
Over the years it seems that golf and bowling are neck in neck as the number one casual activity; golf in the summer, bowling in the winter. It would be great to find a place that offers both, the best of both worlds.
Country Air Driving Range
In Minnesota the golf season can be just as long as the off-season. If we are lucky, we can start playing golf in March or April, and then continue through October. The die hard players will get out there even when they probably shouldn't.
Bunker Hills Golf Simulator Lounge
Seven months ago, I wrote about how we had earned an early spring after the snow-filled winter of 2010-2011. On the flip side, last year's winter was such an easy one that we hardly had to put our clubs away, so who knows just what we're going to get this year.
Golf Zone - Rain, Snow, Shine - Year-Round Fun
For most golf courses and driving ranges, the fall is a time to wind down for the winter and spring is the time to start getting ready for the season. Some use the winter months to recover from a long season while others make that time their own to enjoy. Indoor facilities with nets or simulators seasons tend to run the exact opposite. Their busy time is during winter months when the outdoor courses and ranges close for the season.
Willow Creek Golf Course - Rochester's Daily Double
Willow Creek deserves consideration as Rochester's best public golf course. Few in this Minnesota mini-city would dispute the suggestion. Consensus is it's "top two or three." Willow Creek won't argue with that.
Maple Valley Golf & Country Club - Sweet As Maple Sugar
Maple Valley's address claims to be in Rochester. Ha! Rochester may indeed have beautiful bluffs, but it doesn't have bluffs like these. Rochester has many a river and stream, but it doesn't have rivers that glimmer so sheer, so pure as these. Rochester has many a doctor, but none that could doctor a hole like a dozen of these. Yes, Rochester may have a variety of entertaining golf courses, but it doesn't have a golf course anything like this.
The Bridges Golf Course - Baby's Got Back
Sometimes golf course names don't fit the course. And then sometimes, in particular with The Bridges in Winona, MN... they do. Rumor has it, the original course designer Ben Knight was such a fan of the card game Bridge that he named the course after the game. Even though I made that rumor up someone, be it Ben Knight or his design compadre Robert Trent Jones, (yes, THE R.T.J) clearly loved bridges. They're everywhere. There are even bridges built to get to bridges.
The Bluffs At Coffee Mill - Value High
Golf journalists love it when their subjects have so much going for them that the pieces pretty much write themselves. (My wife wishes the same could be said for grad papers.) Such is definitely the case for The Bluffs at Coffee Mill.
Legacy Golf - Quality Golf Within Reach
Regionally renowned golf course architect, Garrett Gill, has his fingerprints all over the Southern Minnesota golf scene. While he is better known for his contributions at the Meadows at Mystic Lake Casino, his creative design a little further south should certainly not be ignored.
The Links at NorthFork-Versatile With A Syle From The British Isles
Not many courses in Minnesota can allow you to literally host your own version of the British Open, including up to date scoreboards! The Links at NorthFork is perhaps the state's best example of a "links" style golf course, and while the course itself has the "ancient" ambiance to it, the club as a whole is truly right on the cutting edge of technology.
Cannon Golf Club - Spectacular Golf In Cannon Falls
Long daily commutes can be quite discouraging. For those motorists and golf fanatics who have to make such a commute to/from work through Cannon Falls (just south of Minneapolis) it has to be all the more disheartening. You can't help but notice the gorgeous setting to the west of Highway 52 on the north end of the town (I don't mean the Dairy Queen)...that gorgeous scenery being the Cannon Golf Club. Go ahead and honk in jealousy. The golfers will likely just ignore you. Odds are they're having too much fun.
What Is A Thumper Pond?
ANSWER: Thumper Pond is a resort hotel, water park and golf course near Otter Tail Lake with activities for every member of the family, summer or winter!
Hale Irwin's Experience Provides A Great Test In The Jewel
At the end of June, an article was written in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about Hale Irwin in anticipation of the Constellation Senior Players Championship, a Champions Tour Major Championship. Irwin, now 67, is a three-time U. S. Open champion. Only four men have won our national championship more times than Irwin has.

Mississippi Dunes - One Unique Track
Situated literally on the Mississippi River in Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Mississippi Dunes Golf Links pulls many unique, distinctive features from some of the world's most famous layouts to present a one-of-a kind golfing experience. Six par fives and five par threes create an unusual setup for this par 72 course that plays just a hair longer than 6,500 yards.

Wild Marsh Golf Club
There are many reasons why the City Business Journal recognized Wild Marsh as "One of the top 25 courses in the Twin Cities." and the Minnesota Golf Guide has ranked Wild Marsh as one of the "Top 5 Values" in the Twin Cities metro area.
White Eagle Golf Club - Improvements With Patrons In Mind
Garrett Gill, golf course architect, designed White Eagle Golf Club for two distinct types of patrons: homeowners and golfers. When Garrett Gill was given 350 spectacular acres to design a first-rate golf course and limited number of secluded home sites, he salivated like Pavlov's dog.
Troy Burne Golf Club - Friendly By Nature
Have you ever played a round of golf that made you feel better about yourself? Troy Burne Golf Club, located 30-minutes east of St. Paul in Hudson, WI, has discovered a way of making golfers feel so welcome, the fact you're playing on a world-class course is simply icing on the cake.
Willingers Golf Club - Great Value, Great Golf!
Located just one mile west of Interstate 35 in Northfield, Minnesota, Willingers Golf Club offers one of the best "bang for your buck" deals in the Greater Metro area. The club's slogan, "Once played, easily remembered" is quite the fitting sentiment for Willingers. What's the best part? Golfers walking off the 18th green who have fallen in love with the course can easily afford return rounds that run as low as $30 for non-twilight tee times!

Izatys - So Many Options
The argument has raged for over 90 years. What is the true identity of Izatys Resort on the south end of beautiful Mille Lacs Lake or as others say, "on the south end of the Dead Sea."

Madden's - "Just Get Yourself Free, Hop On The Bus, Gus" - Paul Simon lyric
Greyhound Lines had its origin in Hibbing, Minnesota in 1914 transporting iron ore miners from Hibbing to the Alice, MN mines. The motor coach has great history in Minnesota as does Madden's Resort in Brainerd. Madden's history began in 1909 when entrepreneur T.H. Harrison planned a Gull Lake resort and eventually built a golf course and hotel. The golf course was leased to the Maddens in 1920's. Both Greyhound and Madden's have Minnesota history.
Minnesota National - Nature's Golf Course at Settler's Ridge
What is Minnesota National Golf Course?
Minnesota National is a hidden gem of a golf course you should find the time to play. Minnesota National Golf Course and Settler's Ridge Vacation Home Community is the dream of developer/owner, Wayne Alden, who believed, and still believes, that if you build it they will come. He created a golf course and vacation home community in the wilderness just north of McGregor near Big Sandy Lake.

Cragun's - Taking Golf To The Next Level
Some think that Minnesota golf resorts are all the same. The fact is they couldn't be further from the truth. While most are on a lake and offer golf, lodging and wonderful amenities, they are all very different. They forge their niches and guests return year after year to their favorite resort. Guests develop friendships with many staff members, the staff watch as guests children grow up summer after summer.
Giants Ridge - Tops On Golf Digest's "Must Play List"
Whether you have a cabin nearby, or, better yet, a friend with a cabin nearby, make an effort to head up to Biwabik sometime this season. Whatever the reason you make it there, you'll be rewarded with some great golf. Located 80 to 90 minutes north of Duluth, Giants Ridge provides another great golf opportunity for us Minnesotans. Featuring two championship-caliber courses, the Legend and the Quarry, Giants Ridge is one of those "must plays" for any serious golfer.
Golf Courses Are Opening All Over Minnesota!
Here is an updated list of when golf courses are opening this season.
Survival Of The Fittest (7 Of 7 In A Series) - Rounding The Economic Corner, Looking Back At Golf In 2011
This is seventh article in a 7-part series - "Survival of the Fittest" - encompassing the golf industry in the state of Minnesota. The other six articles are available in prior issues of Tee Times Press or online by navigating to www.TeeTimesPress.com; "Fairways & Greens", "Course News". Prior segments covered: Public Courses-The Experience; Resort Courses; Private Clubs; Superintendent Challenges; The Debate of Golf Being Overbuilt; and Discounting.
Wedgewood Cove - Impressive Property, Outstanding Golf
Wedgewood China has built an impressive reputation over the last few centuries as a pottery and dinnerwear giant. Wedgewood Cove Golf Club in Albert Lea, Minnesota, is quickly building a similar reputation over the last few years as a public golf club.
The Links at NorthFork - Brilliant!
The word "links" actually derived from the Anglo-Saxon word "hlinc," which originated in approximately 931 A.D. Hlinc meant ridge, and was later translated to "links," which was then used to reference "any grassy area in a town". So, when golf was invented in Scotland, referring to the course as "the links" was the surefire way to ensure all would understand what it meant. As in, "thare o'er dare ett thee lenks plane ye gowf." The grassy area known as the Links at NorthFork in Ramsey, a ridged gem steeped deep in the roots of the game, is one of Minnesota's few true Scottish Links experiences that "ye gowfer" will find in the state.
The Jewel - Living Up To It's Name
They say that the diamond is the hardest material on earth. Well, The Jewel in Lake City may be one of the hardest tests of golf in the state of Minnesota. Opened in 2005, The Hale Irwin design that stretches up to 7,050 yards is in absolutely pristine condition, truly living up to its name, which is why it has won numerous awards in its extremely brief history. Head Golf Professional Kent Blaschko, Golf Manager Cody Buck, and Superintendent Doug Mahal have done an incredible job of making The Jewel live up to its name.

Survival Of The Fittest (6 Of 7 In A Series) - Discounting: Course Management By Revenue Management
Golf has become affordable, at least to those who haven't lost their jobs. Play golf, my friend, while the golfin's good!

AIRLINE PRICING STRATEGY IS GOLF'S ROADMAP
Airlines used to promote friendliness, perception of comfort, quality of their food service, or on-time record, and even the glamour of their flight attendants. Until 1978, the U.S. government, through the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), regulated many areas of commercial aviation such as fares, routes, and schedules. The Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, however, removed many of these controls, thus changing the face of civil aviation in the United States.

The State of Mississippi National
Minnesota is a state known for many things; The State Fair, The State of Hockey, The State of Purple and Gold, of course the Minnesota Twins, the state that created the legendary leader of the "Miracle on Ice", fishing and ice fishing, lakes and streams and on and on. But, what the great state of Minnesota is known for in the golfing world is the mental state of golfers as the winter bears down and the cold rush tears down our spirits. In Red Wing, Mississippi National is happy to stay open as long as the snowflakes fly away.
White Eagle Golf Club - A Slice Of Heaven Just Over The Border
There is a beautiful golf course in Hudson, Wisconsin, which has maintained as excellent of condition as any in the state throughout the 2011 season. What happened to other courses in the region, whether it was winterkill, heat stress, or turf bugs, Superintendent John Bichner and his grounds crew have chased off all pests and potential problems.
Rush Creek Invests Big In Junior Golf
Rush Creek Golf Club is recognized as one of the top two or three public access golf courses in the Twin Cities area. Rush Creek has hosted the USGA Public Links Championship and many MGA and Minnesota Section PGA tournaments. Rush Creek works hard to maintain their golf course in near perfect condition, but Rush Creek is more than just a place to play golf.
Fun At The Run
Many golfers have said that they measure the quality of a golf course by how many holes they can recall in their mind after playing the course for the first time. Others appreciation for pristine condition on the tees, fairways, and greens keeps them coming back. The improving golfer wishes to play where they can spray it around and still find their ball. So, what about the talented golfer? They no doubt stake their claim that "the greater the challenge, the better the course".
Pebble Creek Golf Club
Becker, MN, located on Highway 10 between the cities and St. Cloud, is famous for three things: Xcel Energy's Nuclear Power Plant, Becker's Furniture World, and Pebble Creek Golf Club. When the city fathers of Becker made the decision to allow Xcel Energy to build a nuclear power plant in their city, they did some long range planning. "How do we utilize the wind fall property tax revenues to improve our community?"
Stonebrooke Leaves Few Stones Unturned
Although the Native American translation for Shakopee is the number "six", visitors to Stonebrooke Golf Club in this south metro golf pocket won't be marking many of said scores on their card. That is, if the player brings a refined mid-iron/hybrid game and a confident putting stroke.

Survival Of The Fittest (5 Of 7 In A Series) - There's A Debate: Is The Golf Industry Overbuilt? So Many Factors To Consider
The golf industry is known to be performing poorly. "The fact is that golf appears to be at a point of being overbuilt," said Jake Enebak, CEO, Tradition Golf, a respected Edina-based golf management company. "There was a big boom in golf course construction in the late 1900s and early 2000s and at the same time the amount of play has stayed about the same."
Majestic Oaks - Big Old M.O.
Majestic Oaks Golf Club, "M.O." dates back almost 50 years to the early 1960s when a group of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company executives, with a love for golf, conceived and built The Golden Tee Golf Course in the remote suburb of Ham Lake. When first opened, the original 18-holes, designed by Charles Maddox, (later named the Platinum course, now named the Signature course) was one of the biggest and best public golf courses in the Twin Cities area. When stretched to the tips, this 7,013 yard monster, with spongy fairways and the ever-present wind, was more golf course than most low handicappers could handle in the days of balata balls and persimmon woods. With a course rating of 74.3 and a slope of 137, it quickly earned a reputation as big and tough track. When "The Players," the money game that moved around the Twin Cities, wanted to play for the big bucks they traveled to Ham Lake where they were warmly welcomed.
Willingers Golf Club - A Sign Of Things To Come
Prior to teeing off at Willingers Golf Club, you'll see a sign located just in front of the first tee box. If you take the time to read this sign in its entirety, you can't help but be excited about what's to transpire.
Grand View Lodge
Grand View Lodge, listed in the National Registry of Historic Places, is located on the north end of Gull Lake near Brainerd. It has been the home of great vacation experiences since 1919. Owned and operated by the Cote Family, the resort is in a continuous state of metamorphosis providing what the current generation expects while retaining the log cabin charm of the early 1900's.
Madden's On Gull Lake - Big And Green
Vacationers started traveling to Minnesota's Lake Country back at the turn of the 20th century even though the trek was arduous via train and horse drawn livery. Tourists were drawn to the picturesque, unspoiled beauty of the area, including the stunningly beautiful Pine Beach Peninsula of Gull Lake.
Breezy Point Resort - It's All About The Deal, All-Inclusive And All-Exclusive
The state of the golf industry in Minnesota has been a challenge for course owners over the past few years but it appears that one resort in the Brainerd area has found a key to drive golfers to their resort to a point that some days they have to close out the tee sheet on their championship course. The key appears to be exclusive to Breezy Point Resort and has a heading of "The Best Deal" on their website.
Cragun's Legacy Courses - No Gamble Here
Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes, is also known as a great place to kick back and relax. Minnesota is a fantastic place to play golf. The Brainerd Region has been the epicenter of the state's renowned golf notoriety. Within the Brainerd region, one of the premiere golf resorts is Cragun's Resort. This resort is well known for its 55 holes of golf as well as thousands of acres of surrounding scenery.
Whitefish Golf Club - Beauty With A Challenge
Tucked away in the tall pines and majestic oaks is a classic-style golf course that simply must be at the top of your next vacation itinerary. Whitefish Golf Club is an affordable golf experience that will heighten your awareness to nature and wildlife with challenges that test your skills. Go play it. Thank me later.
Golden Eagle Golf Club - Forward Thinking
The co-designers of Golden Eagle Golf Club stood one day, before construction began, at a high point of the property overlooking their uncut rolling timberland and motivationally reminded each other, "We've got something beautiful here, let's not do anything to screw it up".

St. Croix National - Golf On A Grand Scale
Just across the Minnesota border, a few miles north of Hudson and across the river from Stillwater, is a land shaped by glaciers, scoured by water, inhabited by forests and home to a ski hill turned golf course called St. Croix National. If you have not yet played this course you owe it to yourself to give it a try. Elevation changes define this course which is spread out over a vast series of hills and valleys with no homes or development in sight. It all adds up to a quiet, challenging and enjoyable round of golf.
Chaska Town Course, Among The Finest
Chaska Mayor, Bob Roepke made the following statement prior to opening Chaska Town Course in 1997, "Our vision is that Chaska will be home to both the best private (Hazeltine National) and the best public courses in Minnesota."

Crystal Lake Golf Club-Where Great Golf & Great Events Begin
"Have you played Crystal Lake in Lakeville?" A golfing friend asked me a couple of weeks ago. "Ain't never been, but I'd sure like to go," I sung in my best Jimmy Buffet voice. "Oh, man, you will love the place!" he told me with excitement. And so, an early morning trip to Crystal Lake Golf Club in Lakeville was scheduled for a few days later.
The Wilds Golf Club In Prior Lake-A Great Place To Elevate Your Game
What is the farthest distance you've been able to see in any direction from a golf course? At The Wilds Golf Club you're treated to a spectacular panoramic view before you've even hit one shot.
Survival Of The Fittest (4 Of 7 In A Series) - More Green...With Less Green. Doing More With Less, Superintendents Becoming Innovative And Creative
The current vogue in the golf industry has been to express phrases such as "affordable golf" yet the golf course industry is struggling for financial survival. There is the reality of club competition with the number of golf courses that have been added in the past decade. In the U.S., we have increased golf course capacity 25% since 1990.
Cragun's - The Legacy Continues
Nearly all Minnesota golfers are well aware of the abundance of heavenly facilities located in the golf kingdom of Brainerd Lakes. Of the many sparkling loops near and around "the lakes", The Legacy courses at Cragun's Resort and Hotel on Gull Lake are as blissful of a golf experience as any in the great state of Minnesota. A number of factors combine to make this a fact.
Survival Of The Fittest (3 Of 7 In A Series) - A Decade Long Downswing On The Upswing; Minnesota Private Clubs, It's A Good Time To Join
Nearly all private golf club owners have been forced to re-examine their business models and make adjustments over the course of the last decade. That process often leads to deeply discounted membership fees, the addition of daily-fee play for non-members, and the postponement of planned improvement projects such as a course redesign or new clubhouse facility. Golf course owners have endured month after month of reduced patronage, forcing some to the financial brink and even bankruptcy. Others have scaled down operational costs, slashed membership fees or opened private fairways to public play.
Izatys - Back From The Dead
Located just 90 miles from the Twin Cities, Izatys was one of the first resorts developed in Minnesota. In 1922 Izatys started as a fishing camp and has been a major part of the resort community on beautiful Mille Lacs Lake ever since Jerry and Dorothy Dubbs ran the resort until 1987.

Survival Of The Fittest (2 Of 7 In A Series) - Minnesota Resort Golf 2011, Don't Wait Until The Last Minute!
In the April edition of Tee Times we introduced the first in a series of articles about the state of golf in Minnesota focusing on public courses. A panel discussed the upcoming season. The article concluded that providing value, and even better, added-value, for a fair price is a far better position for any business than to simply cut fees to stay afloat - when price becomes the driving force, everyone loses!
Survival Of The Fittest (1 Of 7 In A Series) - Golf Courses Strive To Deliver The "Experience"
The 2011 golf season is upon us. The last few years of escalating expenses and price wars have put a number of golf courses in a near bleak fiscal position. 2011 is predicted to be the year that the golf course industry is due to start recovering, but it will also be a "make or break" season for some courses. Anticipating that fact, courses are almost unilaterally developing evolving strategies that will adjust the manner in which they will conduct business.
Rush Creek Golf Club - Public Course, Private Feel
The feeling before playing a golf course for the first time could be compared to the anticipation of a first date. Will the course meet or exceed in your expectations? If you've just reserved your initial tee time at Rush Creek Golf Club, be prepared for a first date with a "wow" factor.
Golden Eagle - The Brainerd Golf Trail's Northern Gem
The northern end of the Brainerd Lakes golf trail is a land of rolling forested hills and home to a wonderful golf course called Golden Eagle Golf Club. Located in the hamlet of Fifty Lakes, this area is unlike many of the more familiar Brainerd area courses. The land here is much hillier than the Gull Lake area and the terrain plays a major part in defining the golf experience at Golden Eagle.
Giants Ridge - Quality & Value!
Many believe that with the combination of world-class golf, skiing, hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, and a variety of quality accommodations, Giants Ridge Golf and Ski Resort is the Midwest's finest family resort destination.
The Wilderness at Fortune Bay
The Wilderness at Fortune Bay is perched atop high granite ridges with spectacular panoramic views of the undisturbed wilderness and of magnificent Lake Vermilion. The Jeff Brauer design is a major part of one of Northern Minnesota's premiere vacation destination, Fortune Bay Resort Casino.
Flora, Fauna, Boat Rides and Great Golf
No other golf course in our area, and few in the world, have a scenic lake cruise included in their green fee. The catch? Before they let you board the boat, you have to launch a tee shot over a lake to a distant land...well more on that later and welcome to Stonebrooke Golf Club in Shakopee, Minnesota.

This long time favorite Southwest metro complex is home to 27 holes of challenging golf including the exciting eighteen hole layout plus a nine hole executive course and driving range. The two courses, along with a spacious clubhouse, pro shop and friendly staff make this a perfect venue for your regular foursome, corporate event, banquet, wedding or charity outing.

Legends Club Recognized for Environmental Excellence
Legends Club has achieved designation as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, an Audubon International program. Scott Thayer, Superintendent, has led the effort to obtain sanctuary status on this course and is being recognized for Environmental Stewardship by Audubon International. Legends Club is the 25th course in Minnesota and the 826th in the world to receive the honor.
Valley View Golf Course
Valley View Golf Course and the wonderful clubhouse that houses Eagle Ridge Restaurant & Lounge are perched high on the hilltop above the city of Belle Plaine with a view of the Minnesota River that lies in the distant valley below.
CreeksBend Golf Course
CreeksBend Golf Course, with a 1940's barn converted into a wonderfully functional clubhouse, is located just 20 minutes South of the Minnesota River and three miles North of New Prague.
Cannon Golf Club
Cannon Golf Club has been around since 1927, but the members don't like to talk about the past, they are a forward thinking group much more interested their golf course today. Located halfway between the Twin Cities and Rochester along the Cannon River, Cannon Golf Club lies in an oak savannah where prairie meets water. The golf course has a well earned reputation for being one of the best maintained courses in Southern Minnesota - with perfect greens.
Gopher Hills - Provides An Uphill Battle
A quick look at the scorecard yardages for Gopher Hills in Cannon Falls-6,355 yards from the blue tees, 5,995 from the white, and 4,913 from the red-and you'll see it's not a long course. Make the short trip South from the Twin Cities to check it out, however, and you'll find a course rife with challenges. The numerous elevation changes, diverse hole layouts, and fescue-laden rough will test any player's bag of uphill, downhill, side hill, blind and wood-chopping shots.
White Eagle - A St. Croix Masterpiece
White Eagle helps anchor the Northern end of the St. Croix River golf trail and I couldn't think of a better place to experience the wondrous rolling and wooded terrain than this championship layout. Designed by Gill Miller (Willingers and Legends Club), this fantastic layout takes advantage of all the natural...
Matt's Top 10 - Clubhouses
As you travel to various golf courses, the clubhouse design and construction is as varied as the courses themselves. As there are no templates for the perfect building, I have found a few things that separate the great clubhouses from the good ones. Being a little more of a function over form person, I do appreciate touches that uniquely accentuate the design inside and out, but the clubhouse should...
Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge, This Brainerd Resort Has Been "Treating Guests Like Family" Since 1898
Joseph Ruttger came to America, the land of opportunity, from Neuleiningen, Germany in 1883. By the spring of 1886 he had moved to Minnesota and joined a group of settlers who founded Rankin's Colony on Bay Lake.

Be Minnesota Monarchy At The Jewel
Want to be treated like royalty, fed grapes and fanned by scantIly-clad good-looking people - keep dreaming. However, you can have a royal golf experience at The Jewel, a premier golf course that is currently open to the public in Lake City, Minnesota. While operating under a new regime (ownership changed hands at the end of 2006), The Jewel continues to treat all of its guests like members of the monarchy both on and off the greens.

Cragun's Legacy Courses - Pristine Golf In The Brainerd Lakes Area
Cragun's Resort in Brainerd is the only Minnesota location that can boast of having 54 holes of Robert Trent Jones, Jr. championship golf. Two 18 hole courses (Dutch 18 and Bobby's 18) and a reversible 9 hole course make up the Legacy Courses at Cragun's. Breezy Point, Starting A New Tradition
Breezy Point Resort has opened their new three level lakeside dining and meeting facility called Marina II. You owe it to yourself the time to check it out. For those of you familiar with the resort, the new building replaces the old dining facility right on Pelican Lake. Construction began after the end of last summer's season and amazingly the building was open for guests on Memorial Day.
Hidden Greens Golf Course, Hastings
Farm land is your constant companion as you travel south of Hastings on Highway 61. Then you turn left into Hidden Greens and you are transported into a forested oasis, like Alice in the Wizard of Oz.
Ridges at Sand Creek, Jordan
Just east of Jordan, MN surrounded by farm land you will find The Ridges at Sand Creek. When owner and general manager, Mike Malone brought in Joel Goldstrand to design his golf course, few golfers would have believed the incredible variety of holes Goldstrand would create on this combination of wind swept highlands and river valley lowlands.
Pierz Golf Course
A GOLF COURSE OR A SEWER SYSTEM?
The WPA, short for the Works Progress Administration, was a Roosevelt administration program to put people back to work during the Great Depression. Many WPA projects built during those depression years are still in use today. The municipal golf course at Pierz, MN is a wonderful example. City fathers had to choose between a municipal sewer system and a municipal golf course.

Matt's Top 10 - Public Golf Practice Ranges
My ideal 'dream' range would be close to home, is comfortable, quiet and has real grass to hit from. The targets (they can be signs, poles, trees or even an old car or piece of machinery) should be visible.

Mississippi Dunes Golf Links, Cottage Grove
When Dr. William Doebler decided to build Mississippi Dunes Golf Links, he did extensive research. He used the Old Course of St. Andrews and Pine Valley as models as he visualized his dream.
Keller Golf Course, Maplewood
As you drive up to Keller Golf Course you feel the nostalgic presence of the historic clubhouse perched high above the parking lot and golf course. The present day golf shop is located at the first tee, so plan on getting to the course early so you can enjoy the "time warp" clubhouse that now serves as the bar and restaurant.
