Golden Eagle #14

There are four marquee golf resorts in the Brainerd Lakes area, all within ½ hour of Golden Eagle Golf Club, and ALL of them likely wish Golden Eagle was THEIR course. There's no denying the "Big Bird" is a special course, and well worth being considered a Play option in ANY area Stay (within an hour). There's also no denying this course belongs in the conversation of Minnesota's best golf courses.

Under new management (SVN | Northco Golf and Resort), with ambitious goals of distinguishing itself on Minnesota's star-studded golf map, they really need to do NOTHING to improve their product. (Seriously!) This is an exceptional golf property and there's nothing here that wasn't working before, just not enough people knew how great it was (or even exactly where it was). Too many golfers didn't know, on their Brainerd Lakes vacations, just how close they were to what many feel is one of the 10 Best Courses in Minnesota. BOOM... there it is. SVN | Northco is putting a powerful motor in their marketing machine and adding to Golden Eagle a committed focus on hospitality, FUN, and excellent golf. "We've added a regular beverage cart, extended all our Food & Beverage hours, and even switched the 9's so the course finishes at the clubhouse," SVN | Northco's Cam Peterson says. "We particularly want to emphasize the spectacular sights, smells and sounds emanating from our terrific patio - a hot post-round hangout. Great food with great service among friends at a great place. That's what Golden Eagle is."

Golden Eagle is a special place. The 200+ acres of former private preserve in Fifty Lakes is only 10 miles north of Crosslake, which is only 10 miles north of Breezy Point, which is 10 miles east of Nisswa, which is only 15 miles north of Brainerd, which is only 100 miles north of the Twin Cities. Plot your path to the Golden Eagle from wherever you are. (Or are going to be this summer.) Mark it on your map. Now you know how easy it is to get there.

Here's WHY you need to go: Golden Eagle Golf Club is a stunning, natural, remote, and topographically turbulent piece of golf property surrounded by water to the tune of about (well) fifty lakes. Houses don't interfere with your round. People don't interfere with your round. Nothing interferes with your round... except for Mother Nature and all her glory. I've seen Bald and Golden Eagles, loons, deer, coyote, foxes and plenty of other four-legged creatures in my rounds at Golden Eagle, and every time I've been able to stop and enjoy it. The open design accommodates all skill levels of golfers, and the secluded setting provides a private club feel - design aspects that architects Michael Morley and Bruce McIntosh surely intended. You arrive, play, and depart with the sensation that you're about to, you are, and you have experienced something truly special.

This is a course of forests, wetlands, dramatic carries and rampant elevation changes. It is a course that runs up and down broad, colorful corridors of trees with bucket loads of beauty and a handful of stellar holes on each nine.

The front nine starts strong, displaying plenty of incredible natural splendor, and incrementally peaking hole-by-hole as you amble along. From the dogleg left opener, to the beautiful Par 3, 2nd and the back-to-back Signature Holes at the all-carry Par 3, 4th and the deceptively long and dangerous Par 5, 5th. You'll find yourself marveling at what was made of this land, and that's before you even get to the front nine's closing trio, three forced-carry gems that collectively create one of the "Best Three-Hole Stretches in the entire Brainerd Lakes Region." The back begins with a pair of Par 5's and ends with a one-two punch of downhill dynamos - a short and sweet Par 3 at #17 and a pond-protected 4-Par path to glory on #18. Now you're back at the clubhouse - the life of the party... waiting for you to join in.

A classic design that is easily appreciated in modern times, and worthy of many rounds of your attention, Golden Eagle has flown under the radar for long enough. SVN | Northco Management and a state of passionate golf explorers are ready to watch it soar.
