|Mount Frontenac #9|
By Tim CotroneoMount Frontenac Golf Course, located 10 miles south of Red Wing, is home to Minnesota's most anticipated drive to a golf course. You may be saying, "Even more anticipated than Hazeltine, more than the TPC, and more than Fortune Bay?" The answer is, "Yes, yes, and yes." If you've yet to make the 55-mile trek south on Highway 61 from St. Paul, you're in for an atmospheric surprise.
First of all, the Mount Frontenac drive deserves a "favorites" click on your cell phone GPS. The charming visuals dotting the historic town of Red Wing makes the jaunt leading up to Mount Frontenac a worthy road trip. It's especially hard to not do a double take when observing the Red Wing Correctional Facility up on the hill to your right. The exterior of this magnificent red stone structure, built in 1885, is like something out of Architectural Digest.
If your attention deficit is getting the best of you right now, you're probably saying, "Enough about the sight-seeing, tell me about the golf course." Newcomers will discover that Mount Frontenac is a teaser then a pleaser. Arrival at the Mount Frontenac Golf Course entry is when your anticipation meter ramps into overdrive.
How High Is Up?
After turning right on to the frontage road that leads to the Mount Frontenac entrance, it's easy to look around and say, ""Where's the golf course?" That's when you spot a sign pointing upward, and you begin a curving ascent up, up, and up. After nearly a mile trending vertical, there's a switchback and another sign reassuring you that you're not in llama country, let alone Dalai Lama country.
Once you eventually pass the 10th tee box and pull into the parking lot next to Mount Frontenac's plush clubhouse, you begin to connect with Bill Murray's Caddyshack version of "total consciousness." There is a definite feeling of tranquility about this golf course that has everything to do with the elevation and something to do with the lush conditions and utter calmness welcoming each guest like a new best friend.
Excuse Me While I Kiss The Sky
When it comes to the business of golf, you'll discover the Mount Frontenac "wows" come fast and furious. Target golf on the Par 4 first hole means simply aiming at the clouds hovering 400-yards above the flagstick on the first green.
As you navigate the serenity that goes hand in hand with the front nine, you try to determine the best way to describe Mount Frontenac. Does "elevation golf, cliff golf, or bluff golf" best capture the views you see on nearly every tee box, fairway, and green?
General Manager Dan Diggins was asked which Mount Frontenac hole claims the signature title. Diggins paused a bit before saying, "The Par 5, 503-yard 12th hole is the easy answer. The truth is, you can see the Mississippi River from nine different holes. The course is beautiful now, but you should see it in the fall when the leaves start changing. People come from miles away to walk, to take photos, or just do lunch here. It's amazing," Diggins said.
The oh so scenic Mount Frontenac Golf Course is also a great retreat for wedding receptions and corporate golf tournaments. "Mount Frontenac is a great hospitality venue for events of all sizes," Diggins said.
As you finish your round, it's time to go back to where this all started. As your car winds down the steep incline, you assess your amazing day at Mount Frontenac. How will you convey to friends this golf experience that mixes elevations, bluffs, and cliffs. Perhaps the Dalai Lama and Bill Murray coined the best way to articulate Minnesota golf's most anticipated drive. "Total consciousness."

Over the past decade, Treasure Island has evolved into much more than a gaming or casino destination. During the summer, thousands flock to "TI" to experience their vibrant water park, soothing spa, relaxing river boat cruises, big name concerts, new restaurants, world-class bowling, and abundance of hotel amenities.

Diana, Aretha, And Toby
What comes to mind when you think of the best concert venue you've ever experienced? Typically the bigger the headliner, the greater the chance of watching from a vantage point in which binoculars are necessary. Treasure Island however brings in the biggest names in music and allows these stars to do their thing in a very intimate setting. Imagine witnessing your favorite artist perform in a venue where the farthest seat is a mere 125-feet from the stage.

On August 20, country favorite Toby Keith will be performing an outdoor concert at Treasure Island. Witnessing Toby under the stars is sure to be one of the hottest tickets of the year.
