The Wilds is one of those unique golfing communities that really has it all: championship quality golf designed by legendary architects, beautiful homes throughout the community, pristine vistas, and a world class clubhouse perfect for any event, wedding, or golf outing. The course's nickname is "Minnesota's Crown Jewel", and they have been living up to that name in the fullest for more than two decades of excellence.
The Golf Experience
Every once in a while in a golf season, a golfer will come across a course that is able to test his or her ability on every shot for a full eighteen holes. The Wilds Golf Club is one such track. Exceeding 7,000 yards, this challenge is one of the best golfing experiences in the state, yet it will stun you with its natural beauty at every turn and vantage point.
While each hole provides a unique challenge on its own, there is one that stands alone as the hardest on the course: the ever-ascending 478 yard par four fifth hole. Golf course architects Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish were at their best in designing this intense examination of golfing ability. While the hole is virtually straight, eight bunkers come into play - most near the green, and it is lined by trees on the left and out-of-bounds on the right. If the wind is in your face, you might as well play it as a par five - but that's the mark of a true test. One truly has to experience the hole to understand just how challenging it can be to play.
On the back side of the course, a player favorite is certainly the 330 yard par four sixteenth hole. You'll have just about any option you want here: try to drive the green, lay up and have a full wedge in, or some combination of the two that allows a short pitch. The green is well protected up front, with mounds ready to alter the line of any shot, along with a large bunker on the left and a smaller one joining the fun on the right.
One of the many differences in experience that The Wilds provides is their first class practice area. Complete with three tiers to their practice tees (two on top of a hill, one at the bottom), multiple chipping greens, and a large and realistic putting green, you'll have everything you need to get ready to play. But what's even greater: it truly is one of the best places in our area to flat out practice. With an "unlimited range balls" option, you can literally work on your game to your heart's content, and practice every shot you'll ever need on a golf course.
Excellence At Its Finest
While the golf stands with the best in the state - and even the region - The Wilds really separates itself with its terrific clubhouse, banquet, event, and wedding experience. Having a wedding reception at The Wilds is as thrilling and relaxed an atmosphere as you can get in the Twin Cities. Their staff will go the extra mile every time to make sure the needs of the couple are met to the fullest extent. Couple that with the stunning views of the Minnesota valley - with Minneapolis standing tall in the distance on clear days - and you have the perfect place to celebrate the union of the newest of newlyweds!
Their excellence in event execution is hardly limited to weddings, however. Corporate events are held with regularity at The Wilds, along with holiday parties and banquets of every sort. One of the biggest aspects in planning an event that Head Golf Professional Andy Gerber stresses is "to let the golf course help you with your event, because this is what we do." The Wilds, thanks in no small part to its sterling reputation, hosts well over 100 events per year, and that expands beyond golf.
"We like to focus on the little things that help groups raise money, market the event, get people to come out and play. We can help you plan no matter what it is. The golf event isn't always the best way to raise money, but we always want to see how we can help you," explained Gerber.
One of the trends in recent years in event hosting is the "small group outing" that many businesses are starting to really implement and enjoy. Gerber shared that "groups of 12-20 people are great for us, because it allows the event organizer to be really creative. There is a lot of flexibility in how you want your event to go, and keep in mind, the best place to close a deal is on the golf course!"
It's time to get your deal done and go experience the excellence that is Minnesota's Crown Jewel, The Wilds Golf Club!
