Golf Zone – Rain, Snow, Shine – Year-Round Fun

By Brad Parrott

For most golf courses and driving ranges, the fall is a time to wind down for the winter and spring is the time to start getting ready for the season. Some use the winter months to recover from a long season while others make that time their own to enjoy. Indoor facilities with nets or simulators seasons tend to run the exact opposite. Their busy time is during winter months when the outdoor courses and ranges close for the season.

Golf Zone in Chaska has combined the best of both worlds. They offer something for every level of golfer to take advantage of with out any concern of the season and outdoor conditions. They opened in 1998 and have a 25,000 square foot facility set on 90 acres of woodlands.

During the winter months when pretty much everything is frozen and we are bundling up in many layers of clothes, Golf Zone offers both heated stalls and a gorgeous 18-hole mini golf course called Big Bear.

Golf Zone has 40, yes 40, protected and heated stalls where golfers can take a full swing and because it is on a full driving range, you can see the full flight. Each stall has a TV to keep an eye on your favorite sporting event as well as food and beverage service so if energy or fuel is needed during your time, you don’t have to step away from your stall.

The indoor mini golf course has a beautiful north woods feel with large rocks, timbers and waterfalls to bring the feel of outside to the inside. A mixture of holes provides excitement for both kids and adults. There are straight holes requiring you to bank your putt, as well as curves and slopes that require you to play the break.

Also located in the temperature controlled area along with the mini golf course and heated stalls is a bar, a patio area, and a party room. The bar and patio adjacent to The Big Bear putting course offers a full selection of pop and beer for thirst quenching as well as Heggies Pizza’s to keep energy levels up. The party room is available to rent for birthdays, meetings, special events, holiday parties, or any other type of group outing.

It is easy to see that during the off-season, Golf Zone is the one stop that can take care of almost any need. Whether it is to just hit balls to keep your swing in groove, or to host a party, or even just looking for a fun night out with the spouse and kids, they have you covered.

If you are concerned that when summer arrives, you will miss what Golf Zone has to offer, there is nothing to worry about. Minnesotans are blessed with a wide variety of weather conditions. Just because the snow is gone and the temperatures are warmer, we still face rain, sleet, cold streaks, as well as warm streaks with triple digit heat indexes.

Just as the indoor putting course is heated in the winter, it is also air conditioned in the summer for those days that are a little too hot to be outside on the course. The stalls are also protected so during those rainy days, you can still hit balls without getting soaked or “tossing” one of your clubs down range because the grips were wet.

Moving away from all the “bad weather” talk and options, Golf Zone has you covered during the nice days. Outside they offer both a 3-hole par 3 course to work on your short game as well as an 18-hole putting course on natural grass.

For those days you are short on time but still need to get your golf fix, the 3-hole course might just be the perfect option to get your fix while working on arguable the most important part of your game. Let’s not forget about the full driving range. When the weather is nice, natural grass tee boxes are utilized for the driving range offering more of the true conditions.

With all that is already mentioned, there is still one more thing. Owner Jeff Helstrom also provides individual lessons as well as a Junior Golf Program. Work on your swing while your children enjoy learning the game in a fun environment.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, no matter what time of year it is, how many people you are with, what the conditions are outside, you will find something to do at Golf Zone in Chaska, MN.
